Day 1

Iquitos/Amazon River

Arrive in Iquitos this afternoon. Your guides await you, as your flight from Lima glides in for landing at Iquitos International Airport. After you’ve claimed your luggage, you will board an air-conditioned bus for your journey to the river. There you will board your luxury vessel, MV Aqua and check into your luxurious suite. Over the next seven days, you will also sail along the two largest tributaries of the Amazon, the Ucayali and the Marañon, as well as the mighty Amazon itself. You are embarking on a spectacular adventure, to a place visited by only a few of even the most experienced world travelers.

Amazon/Nauta Cano/Yacapana

This morning you will board your comfortable excursion skiffs for your first adventure down the Yarapa River. Take the opportunity to fish for piranhas in Moringo Lake, or just relax and admire the wildlife with the help of a naturalist guide.

In the afternoon, travel along the black water lagoons of Nauta Cano, which lies within the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve. With the help of a guide, look for parrots, macaws, sloths, monkeys, and many other different animals.

As you head back to the Aqua Amazon for dinner, enjoy an incredible sunset in the black waters of the flooded forest.

Birthplace of the Amazon/Village Visit/Nauta Town

Start your day at the "Birthplace of the Amazon" where the Ucacyali and Maranon rivers converge to form the Amazon. There scenery is spectacular! Then, cruise along the Amazon, stopping to visit a riverside village along the way. On your way back to the ship, navigate on a small connector canal to admire the world's largest aquatic plant, the giant water lilies or Victoria Regias.

In the afternoon, take an optional land tour to Nauta City, or choose the venture to Nauta Cano.

Day 5

Ucayali River/Yanallpa Area/Dorado River/Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

This morning board the skiffs to explore this amazing black water stream, part of the vast Amazon flooded forest. Your guides will tell you about the rainforest and its dynamic life, as you explore what scientists call a “gallery forest,” because of its narrow vegetation, creating a tunnel of leaves. As you float through this tunnel, it is easy to spot parrots, macaws, and fluffy monk saki monkeys, very close to the skiff.

This afternoon take a magical journey through the “Mirrored Forest,” seeing towering trees reflected in the black water river, while spotting dozens of enchanting parrots, blue-yellow macaws, and a great variety of primates and sloths enjoying nature unperturbed by our presence. As we make your way back to the vessel, you will also have the chance to see caimans and frogs and fishing bats.

Day 6

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Puinahua River/Pacaya River/Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Choose from two different excursions.

You may also have the opportunity to meet some of the local people who take care of the reserve's natural resources. On your way back to the boat, stop by the famous Ceiba tree, the tallest in the Amazon.

Excursion 2:

After breakfast, spend the day sailing along the Pacaya River and fishing for piranha with the help of trained naturalist guides. Then, search for freshwater dolphins and other amazing wildlife along the Puhinahua River.

After lunch, sail and swim around Lake Clavero before sailing downstream towards Iquitos.

This evening while your vessel continues its journey, enjoy your final dinner together with the crew, swapping stories about the wonderful experiences shared on the river.

Day 8

  • Breakfast, Lunch

Wake up for an early morning excursion on the Tahauyo River to capture your last sunrise photos.

Weather and time permitting, this will be the last opportunity to see how people live along the Amazon—by visiting the lively riverside community of Belen, in Iquitos, by skiff. Here, where the houses and shops actually float on the river during some months, you will see the bustling food market for the entire Peruvian Amazon. All local inhabitants throughout the region sell and purchase goods here.

Enjoy lunch on board before disembarking your ship. Visit the Manatee Rescue Center, where biologists and volunteers care for endangered Amazon manatees that conservation authorities have seized from local people and fishermen. Biologists will give a presentation about the project and its efforts to help these helpless mammals. You will also see how the manatees are cared for and are prepared for re-introduction into their natural habitat.Transfer to the Iquitos International Airport where your guides will assist you with your baggage and check-in, and will wait with you until you are ready to board your evening flight to Lima.
