The Falkland Islands are a British Overseas Territory and guests can enjoy a pint of beer in one of the many typically English local pubs in the capital of Stanley. It is a habitat for Gentoo, Magellanic, and Rockhopper penguins, the black-browed albatross, and peregrine falcons. We may also visit Carcass Island. Its steep cliffs and pretty coves attract rich birdlife such as various species of songbirds, ducks, geese, caracaras, and wrens.

Day 8-10: South Georgia

  • Ship
  • 3 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 3 Dinners
South Georgia’s unique position inside the Antarctic ecosystem yet outside the sea ice makes it a haven for thousands of species. The density and variety of wildlife on display to photograph have earned South Georgia the nickname 'Serengeti of the Southern Ocean'. Guests can expect to see elephant seals, fur seals, albatross, and king penguins in their thousands.

On each day here, we have a choice of ten possible sites to visit, including Fortuna Bay, Gold Harbour, abandoned whaling stations, and the Whaler’s Church and cemetery in Grytviken where guests can pay their respects to the great Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Day 11: At sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
As we continue toward the great White Continent, learn more about the history, environment, and wildlife of Antarctica through lectures and research in the onboard Science Center. We will sail through the Washington Strait near Coronation Island before setting a course towards Elephant Island and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 12-20: Antarctica

  • Ship
  • 9 Breakfasts, 9 Lunches, 9 Dinners
As guests are limited to just 200 people on MS Fram, we have a much wider choice of 45 possible sites on the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula to go cruising in small boats and to make landings. Each site offers opportunities to observe penguin colonies, seals, whales, glaciers, and icebergs up close.

If ice conditions and weather permitting, we will also attempt to sail south past the Antarctic Circle, at the Captain’s discretion.

All aboard are invited to participate in lectures on glaciology, climate change, and marine biology. Guests can also engage in Citizen Science programs like photographing leopard seals and spotting whale tails that contribute directly to scientific research.

Included:

·  Daily landings with short hikes to scenic or wildlife spots
·  Small boat cruises near the ship and landing site
·  Lectures on a wide range of scientific topics

Additional optional activities may include:

·  Kayaking near icebergs, and possibly seals and penguins

Day 21-22: At Sea

  • Ship
  • 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners
The Drake Passage connects the Atlantic, Pacific, and Southern Oceans and is the shortest crossing to and from Antarctica. It is also nicknamed the ‘Drake Shake’ when the seas are stormy or the ‘Drake Lake’ when the waters are still.

While at sea, and provided conditions are calm, guests may be able to sight whales, dolphins, and sea birds such as albatrosses and petrels. Guests will have time to learn more in the Science Center, attend lectures, enjoy the ship’s hot tubs, sauna, and gym, or just relax while bird and whale watching out on the deck.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
