Start Planning My Trip
Start this adventure with a guided sightseeing tour of Longyearbyen, followed by a visit to Barentsburg, a Russian settlement. When you arrive in Magdalenefjord, there is a Polarcirkel boat landing to see the remains of blubber ovens, as well as a graveyard from the 17th- to the late-18th-century. If the ice conditions are favorable, it is possible to sail past 80° North and toward Moffen, a known haul-out for walrus. On the southern shore of Kongsfjorden find one of only four permanent settlements on Svalbard: the old coal mining town of Ny-Ålesund - now the northernmost settlement in the world and an advanced High Arctic research facility.

Day 1: Longyearbyen

Upon arrival you are taken to the Spitsbergen Hotel or Coal Miners’ Cabins, where you stay for the night.

Day 2: Longyearbyen | Embark | Barentsburg

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Enjoy a sightseeing trip in Longyearbyen, ending at the pier where you join the MS Nordstjernen. Your first stop is the Russian settlement of Barentsburg, where there are opportunities to visit the Pomor Museum (optional) and enjoy a lively folklore show. In the afternoon, continue out the Isfjord and head north along the Prins Karls Forland.

Day 3: Magdalenefjord | Northwest Corner

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Arrive in Magdalenefjord in the morning, where you make your first Polarcirkel boat landing. This area has a long history of exploration. Experience a very important cultural heritage: the remains of four blubber ovens/furnaces found on Gravneset, as well as a graveyard containing about 130 graves dating from the 17th- to the late-18th-century.

Day 4: Woodfjorden & Liefdefjorden | 80° North & Moffen

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
As you cruise towards the Monaco Glacier, pass a number of small islets where eider ducks nest during the summer. This is a great place for spotting polar bears hunting for eggs. If you're lucky, the ice conditions make it possible to sail past 80° North and toward Moffen, a known haul-out for walrus.

Day 5: Kongsfjorden | Ny-Ålesund

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Sail into Kongsfjorden, a 16-mile-long inlet. From here you can see the two glaciers: Kronebreen and Kongsvegen. On its southern shore find one of only four permanent settlements on Svalbard: the old coal-mining town of Ny-Ålesund - now the northernmost settlement in the world with facilities for permanent research institutes from ten countries.

Day 6: Longyearbyen | Disembark

The Spitsbergen adventure is over. Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.
