Day 1: Embark in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen

A small town, Longyearbyen is honored to be the administrative capital of the Spitsbergen archipelago and the starting point of your Arctic expedition. Start your adventure with a visit to the town's fantastic Polar Museum.

Embark the Sea Spirit in the afternoon and keep an eye for whales as the ship sails out of Isfjorden.

Day 2: Ny Ålesund settlement – Krossfjorden, 14th of July Glacier

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
This morning, visit the most northerly settlement in the world, Ny Ålesund. Founded in 1917 by a mining company the town now houses several research stations of different countries. The mooring mast used by Amundsen and Nobile in their airship flights to the North Pole embodies the great history of Arctic exploration.

In the afternoon, the Sea Spirit enters the picturesque Krossfjorden. Board Zodiacs and cruise along the Glacier of 14th of July. This place is remarkable for the beautiful view: blue ice, green slopes near the glacier, a colorful variety of wild flowers, and bird colonies on the nearby cliffs. An Arctic Fox is also here – it patrols the base of the cliffs in case a chick falls from its nest.

Day 3-4: Sailing the Greenland Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
As your ship cruises the Greenland Sea, spend your days relaxing on the ship deck while enjoying the magnificent Arctic beauty, or by taking advantage of your ship's numerous amenities as you prepare for the next leg of your journey.

Day 5: Myggbukta – Kejser Franz Josef Fjord

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Today, begin exploring the vast spaces of Northeast Greenland National Park – the world's largest and most northerly national park.

Head to Myggbukta in the morning, a location historically known for Norwegian whaling, and a radio and meteorology station. Even earlier, in the first half of last century, the Norwegians hunted here for polar bears and Arctic foxes. Visit the old hunters’ huts and hike along the lush tundra, populated by musk oxen and Arctic hares. The picturesque small lakes are favored by geese.

Afterwards, the Sea Spirit pushes on through the beautiful Kejser Franz Josef Fjord, framed by towering mountains. Here you can see your first huge icebergs, so much associated with Greenland. You may also encounter narwhals.

Day 6: Ymer Island, Blomsterbugten – Antarctic Sund – Ella Ø Island

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
This morning, the ship drops an anchor by Ymer Island. Here, discover one of the most breathtaking places in Greenland and on Earth — Blomsterbugten. The name of this place is translated as “bay of flowers”. Though it is not the peak of flowering on dates of the expedition, you may see dwarf birch, Arctic willow, cotton grass and purple saxifrage. It is not only flowers that make this place bright and colorful. Grass and lichen bring out the gold of the tundra, red rocks make the landscape unearthly, and a lake brown due to the erosion of the sedimentary rocks contrast dramatically with the blue of the sky. Musk oxen and Arctic hares are frequent in this place.

Have you known that there is another Antarctica high in northerly latitudes? Discover it today as soon as the ship enters a magnificent Antarctic Sund. Though it is not Antarctic-like scenery that gives this odd name to the place (it was a name of a ship aboard which the area was explored) you will not be disappointed with surrounded landscapes. Icebergs, mountains and fancy design of geological formations form views rival to Antarctic landscapes.

During the landing at Ella Ø, take a close look at Sirius Patrol camp. The Sirius Patrol is Danish navy unit that conducts long-range reconnaissance patrolling, and enforces Danish sovereignty in the Arctic wilderness of Northern and Eastern Greenland. If you are lucky to meet Sirius’s members in the camp you may have unique opportunity to learn about this elite Danish navy unit first hand. Then go for a hike and view one of the best vistas in the world.

Day 7: Antarctic Havn – Greenland Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Spend today exploring another “antarctic” place in Greenland – a bay of Antarctic Havn. Though groups of musk oxen and colorful autumn vegetation make the landscapes absolutely different from those in Antarctica.

Leave the area of Northeast Greenland National Park behind and go down to the world’s largest, and – some say – most beautiful fjord system – Scorsebysund.

Day 8: Danmarks Ø Island – Fonfjord

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
This morning, land on Danmarks Ø, where you find the remains of an Inuit settlement abandoned around 200 years ago. The carpets of red, yellow, and green vegetation contrast dramatically with snow patches and beautiful icebergs near the coast.

During an afternoon Zodiac cruise in Fonfjord, watch some of the most stunning icebergs in Greenland that make Scorsebysund area so popular.

Every evening spent at Scoresbysund, you have a great opportunity to see fantastic Northern Lights.

Day 9: Harefjord – Rypefjord, Cape Hofmann Halvø

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The Scoresbysund region contains the most productive fast-flowing outlet glaciers draining east from the Greenland Ice Cap. In the morning, plan to explore the Harefjord, which lies on the boundary between Scoresbysund as one of the world’s largest fjord systems and the very inland ice of Greenland. The hikes at Harefjord take you up close to one of the many outlet glaciers of the Greenland Ice Sheet. From the highest point, observe a breathtaking view over Harefjord where the glacier tongues descend into the sea. Here, and further at Rypefjord, admire rare blue icebergs, which are more typical for the Antarctic.

In the afternoon, head to Rypefjord to watch more blue “antarctic” icebergs, which are even bigger and deeper in color than in Harefjord. Go ashore at Cape Hofmann Halvø to walk around the breathtaking autumn tundra. With dwarf willow and dwarf birch changing their colors; with Arctic blueberry and crowberry adding their own colorful touch; with huge dark mountains and the cold blue of the icebergs – the landscapes here are something awesome! Encounters with musk oxen are almost guaranteed.

Day 10: Ø Fjord – Sydkap

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
This morning, be on open decks as the Sea Spirit navigates through Ø Fjord to Sydkap. The fjord is surrounded by stunning mountains with the highest peaks up to 2000 meters.

In the afternoon, land at Sydkap to view the remains of the Thule culture winter houses. As many as 20 people lived in these tiny houses, hunting Greenland whale and using their vertebrae to build houses. The landscape here is gently undulating.

Day 11: Ittoqqortoormiit – Denmark Strait

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Ittoqqortoormiut is the biggest settlement in the Scoresby Sund with a population of about 450 inhabitants. Visit the town in the morning and observe the modern lifestyle above the Arctic Circle.

In the afternoon, the ship heads for Denmark Strait. It’s time to bid farewell to East Greenland as you pass by stunning views of the Blosseville Kyst.

Day 12: Ísafjörður Fjord

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The Ísafjörður fjord is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the country, mainly for its relief, forged by many very ancient basaltic flows. Today, visit the small town of Ísafjörður, honored to be the capital of the Western fjords. The local old wooden houses bear witness to its past as a major fishing port. Get a glimpse of the traditional everyday life in Ísafjörður. Accompanied by a guide, walk around the town to experience the town’s true spirit and meet the locals in their element. The towering steep mountains of the Western Fjords provide a perfect shelter for the lively harbor which is the heart of the town. For centuries, Ísafjörður has been the largest fishing town in the area and the center for export and trade. Colorful houses decked with corrugated iron give the bustling center a friendly and almost mythical aura. The main industry is fishing and the townsfolk rely heavily on that for their financial security. Through time Ísafjörður has also played a significant role in Iceland’s national history and is still one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the country.

Day 13: Grundarfjördur village (Iceland)

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Grundarfjördur is a typical Icelandic fishing village, framed by beautiful mountains. During a guided tour around the settlement, observe how people live here face to face with nature.

Day 14: Disembark in Reykjavik

  • 1 Breakfast
Finish your journey with disembarkation in the capital of Iceland Reykjavík.
