This exciting journey across the Andes mountains combines three circuits with different characteristics. The "Way to the Clouds" ride is an iconic railway experience; the Puna circuit is a fantastic view of an amazing desert landscape with changing colors in spring and autumn. The route down the Humahuaca gorge is just stunning! These trails offer many highlights along the way: San Antonio de Los Cobres, where the famous train stops at 1,832 meters above sea level, Salinas Grandes (enormous salt lake) of Jujuy, and Purmamarca (known for its colorful rock formations).

Day 1: Safari to the Clouds

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
Depart early this morning from Salta for the "Safari to the Clouds" adventure. This journey highlights three different circuits of Northern Argentina. The first one, the "Way to the Clouds," follows the famous railway track of the "Train to the Clouds" through the “Quebrada del Toro” (Bull’s Ravine) up to San Antonio de Los Cobres. The second circuit goes through the Puna, along National Route Nº 40, up to Salinas Grandes (enormous salt lake) of Jujuy. And the third one descends to Lipan (La cuesta de Lipán) and on to the picturesque village of Purmamarca at the base of the well-known Seven Colours Hill, in the UNESCO recognized Humahuaca Gorge. There, you will have time to visit the handicraft market and walk around the village. The circuit ends in Salta late this afternoon.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
