Tambopata Research Center

The Tambopata Research Center is a spartan yet comfortable 13 bedroom lodge built to accommodate Peru travelers and researchers alike while protecting the adjacent macaw clay lick. Because of its remote location in an uninhabited wilderness housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in-depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife.

The lodge is designed using traditional, low impact native architecture to provide the creature comforts necessary for enhancing the wilderness experience without compromising its authenticity. From the lodge visitors can look out at the undisturbed forest just 10 meters from their door.

There are daily departures on wildlife viewing tours and environmental study tours, with no minimum number of passengers to assure utmost flexibility a great value. The chefs at Tambopata Reseach Center offer buffet style meals that combine international, Peruvian and local cuisine. Vegetarians are of course welcome.

The guides at TRC are young, English-speaking Peruvian biologists. Additionally, there are professional researchers that visit the lodge at different times of the year and this presents an ample opportunity to interact with the top experts in rainforest ecology.

The staff to visitor ration is 2 to 1 and our experienced, well-trained team assures excellent service throughout your stay. Walks on trails are kept at a 6:1 tourist to guide ratio, which increases wildlife encounter opportunities. Natural history attractions include world's largest known macaw lick, over twenty five identified macaw nesting sites, primates and other larger mammals, and a high bird diversity concentrated in seven distinct habitats that are easily accesible from TRC.
