I think this is the key to any good travel plan. There certainly are factors which can adversely affect tours or private arrangements such as landslides, earthquakes, floods, as well as strikes, and any experienced traveler is aware of the necessity of changing plans at the last minute.

Interesting and more so is that I was not even aware of the strikes in Peru. Whilst it may be annoying to have you travels disrupted by such events it is also the charm of a third world country. I think a lot of people from 1st world countries would find it an interesting change.
