We were there about a month ago and the ash situation is really bad. We decided to rent a car. Funny enough the ashes were not so bad in Bariloche but Villa La Angostura were covered in it!

I am glad (although others may not be) that the alternative routes listed, will ease my journey to whatever place I want to visit in Argentina.
