Octopus on the flats at Turneffe (Julia Kocubinski)
We went out today to the same area we had been yesterday, south of the lodge. Dion took me out flats fishing, and I got my first shots at bonefish on the flats! I had a couple on, but couldn't land them. They are fighters! Evan and Dion had spotted an octopus trying to hide in the dead coral. It was so crazy and amazing to see how quickly the octopus changed colors, not just solid colors, but actually showed the same texture as the coral he was in. He sprayed us a few times with water, and then we decided to leave him be. On our way back into the lagoon, we came across Abel with a fellow guest Pam kayaking in a beautiful bay - with more dolphins! Such a wonderful and peaceful place to relax. After a couple more hours of fishing, relaxing on the boat, and drinking a few beers, I headed in for the day. I wanted a few more hours to relax around the pool before heading back to the mainland. Dinner tonight was baked lobster - amazing meal! Such a great week at Turneffe Flats. We will definitely be back!
