As I write this, I'm sipping on a glass of Argentinean Malbec. Ian and I are quasi wine aficionados. We tend not to drink expensive wines, but we do know our varietals. It seemed only natural that we spend our last night in Chile in a winery. Matetic was the perfect ending to our trip. Located just over an hour from the airport in a very quiet valley far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we awoke to the sound of birdsong in the immaculate gardens outside our room.
The Casona at Matetic is located about 12 km from the winery operations. After breakfast to order, we rode horses from the hacienda to the winery for a late morning tasting. Lunch was perfectly plated and presented, highlighted by an excellent bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. My only regret was not spending another night or two here. What a lovely ending to the perfect trip!
