Day 1 Arrive Sitka
Arrive into Sitka, Alaska's historic port town, and settle into your included hotel. Prepare for the upcoming family adventure aboard the Baranof Dream, a cruise that makes science come to life for kids and their families, while creating memories to last a lifetime and having tons of fun at the same time. There’s something new to see, do and learn around every bend.
As the Baranof Dream cruises through Southeast Alaska, daily activities give kids provides personal experience in the Last Frontier with boots-on and hands-on learning opportunities.
Kids will learn about the geology of the region, collecting and identifying rocks. Budding biologists and naturalists will identify indigenous plants and animals. The maritime environment is the perfect place to learn about nautical charts and terms, and study the tides and intertidal zones. Kids will find their way to treasure in the rain forest on a geocaching expedition. Social Sciences activities will cover the demographics of the region, plus the economics and culture of the areas and people visited. Kids will get to make traditional arts and crafts in cultural classes.
Day 2 Sea Otter Quest / Embark
Spend time exploring Sitka’s popular attractions: Sheldon Jackson Museum, Russian Bishops house and St. Michaels Cathedral. Board a deluxe tour boat for a “Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest” exploration of beautiful Sitka Sound. Home to marine mammals, Sitka sound counts humpback, and killer (orca) whales, sea otters, and Steller sea lions amongst the abundant wildlife. Embark the Baranof Dream and set sail.
Day 3 Juneau & Orca Point Lodge
Tour the state capital, including the Mendenhall Glacier and State Museum. Orca Point Lodge for a locally harvested king crab and seafood dinner, marine life touch-tank, beach fire and other activities.
Days 4-5 Hobart Bay
Spend time doing activities like Alaskan’s do, Kayaking, Skiff rides and All-Terrain Vehicles. Also, learn about tide cycles, intertidal zones, beach walk, camp fire, geology, logging, plant and animal identification, navigation, and more.
Day 6 Tracy Arm
Explore Tracy Arm Fjord. View the Sawyer Glaciers, Skiff Excursions.
Day 7 Petersburg
Tour Petersburg including the Norwegian Dancers. Afternoon Wildlife and Scenic Exploration of Sumner Strait.
Day 8 Klassan
Visit the small native village of Kasaan. Walk to the oldest Haida Clan House in the world. Explore the ancient totem park and also learn about traditional native carving. Wildlife and Scenic Exploration of Clarence Strait.
Day 9 Misty Fjords
Explore Misty Fjords National Monument. View Rudyard Bay, including the “Punch Bowl”. View New Eddystone Rock. Skiff Excursions.
Day 10 Ketchikan
Disembark this morning in Ketchikan for your continued journey home.
