What's your Adventure?

Days 1-2 Agadir, Morocco / Embark

Arrive in Agadir and transfer to the port to board your private yacht, the Callisto. Built around a sweeping bay, Agadir was first colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th century and was captured by the Saadians in the 1500s. Enjoy dinner aboard ship. Overnight docked in port.

Day 2 Taroudant or Imouzzer

Enjoy a choice of excursions, including a drive through the fertile Souss Valley southeast of Agadir to reach the imperial city of Taroudant, once the capital of the Saadian dynasty. Alternatively, visit Imouzzer des Ida Outanane, an extremely scenic area of the Atlas Mountains northeast of Agadir. The surrounding valleys harbor several Berber villages, nestled deep in picturesque gorges, and are accessible only by jeep, which all offer an authentic glimpse of traditional Berber life. Sail from Agadir in the evening.

Day 3 Marrakech

From Safi, drive to fabled Marrakech, one of Morocco’s Imperial Capitals, founded in the 11th century and set among gardens and palm groves. Explore the 12th-century Koutoubia Minaret; the Bahia Palace; the Ben Youssef Medressa; and Djemaa el-Fna, the city’s central square at the heart of the medina. There will also be the opportunity to walk through Marrakech’s colorful souks.

Day 4 El Jadida

From the port of Jorf-Lasfar, explore El Jadida, whose old Medina has a distinct Portuguese flavor from the town being held for over 250 years by Portugal. Formerly known as Mazagan, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in part due to its being an example of the interchange between European and Moroccan cultures. Nearby is the walled city of Azemmour, another Portuguese stronghold.

Day 5 Casablanca / Rabat, Morocco

Drive from Casablanca to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital, whose impressive architecture reveals the city’s rich and varied history. Tour the remains of Sala Colonia, the southwesterly-most outpost of the Roman Empire, which thrived for two centuries under Roman rule. Also tour the Chellah Citadel, which contains the royal tombs, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, on the grounds of the 12th-century El Hassan Mosque. There will be time to explore the Rabat Medina with its beautiful houses and interesting markets and shops.

Day 6 Tarifa, Spain

Tarifa, in Spain’s Andalusia, is continental Europe’s southernmost port. Glimpse the town’s history in the remains of its medieval walls, notably the 13th -century Puerta de Jerez; the Gothic St. Matthew’s Church, built in the early 16th century; and the ruins of the Castle of Guzmán el Bueno, offering views of the harbor. Then travel to the nearby Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, spectacularly located on the shores of the Strait of Gibraltar, facing Morocco. The town was founded in the late 2nd century B.C. and was an important trade stop. Tour the well-preserved archaeological site, which reveals the most comprehensive remains of a Roman town on the Iberian Peninsula.

Day 7 Gibraltar

Gibraltar is one of the world’s great sea landmarks that has guided mariners for centuries. Ascend to the top of the Rock, visit Saint Michael’s Cave, and see Gibraltar’s famed tailless monkeys, then continue to Casares, a typical Andalusian “White Town,” set on a hillside below a castle. Wander around the twisting lanes, enjoying views from the Alcazar, the ruins of a Moorish castle. Alternatively from Gibraltar continue to San Pedro, near which we visit several splendid early monuments including the Roman villa at Río Verde, known for its unusual mosaics depicting everyday kitchen utensils; the Roman bath-house of Las Bovedas, whose well-preserved remains are from an octagonal 3rd-century Roman design; and the 6th-century Visigoth Christian basilica of Vega del Mar with its fine baptismal font.

Day 8 Granada

From Malaga, travel to Granada, site of the celebrated Alhambra, the palace-fortress of the 13th-century Nasrid Sultans, rulers of the last Moorish kingdom in Spain. With its splendid palaces, fragrant gardens, and spacious courtyards, the Alhambra represents the brilliance of Moorish culture, art, and architecture. Also visit the 16th-century Cathedral, with its ornate Royal Chapel. Overnight aboard docked in Malaga.

Day 9 Malaga / Disembark

Disembark this morning for your continued journey home.

    Ship Highlights

  • Luxury Expedition Ship

Callisto is the last word in sophistication. The guest list is limited to 34—a group large enough to bring together an interesting mix, but small enough to foster a true spirit of community. Cabins are more like guest rooms in a fine home -- beautifully furnished, comfortably arranged, and complete with the little extras one would expect from a thoughtful host. The yacht's public areas, whether indoors or out on deck, are warm, inviting places where friends meet for conversation, a drink, or to pass a pleasant hour with a good book. The cuisine is superb. And the service is considerate and congenial for the best in luxury cruising of the Mediterranean, coastal Africa, Greek Isles and more.

Callisto was designed with the comfort of her guests in mind. All staterooms are exterior with large windows (portholes on Daphne Deck) that look out on the sea and the yacht's various ports of call; they are air conditioned and feature generous storage space, a telephone, two-channel radio, and a marble bath with shower. The yacht's public areas include a spacious lounge; a dining room in which all guests are accommodated at a single unassigned seating; two broad decks for sunbathing and dining alfresco; and a swimming platform at the yacht's stern. The Callisto flies the Greek flag and is served by a crew of 18.

Amenities
Beautifully appointed and filled with amenities one would expect to find in a fine country house, the 17 cabins feature large windows (portholes on the Daphne Deck) that look out on the sea. Cabins also feature:
• Satellite TV, DVD/CD player
• Telephone
• Mini-refrigerator
• Marble-appointed bathroom with fine toiletries
• Plush terry robes and slippers
• Fresh flowers and fruit basket
• 24-hour room service

Decorated with rich fabrics, handsome wood, polished brass, rare antiquities and fine works of art, the yacht’s public spaces are warm and inviting. These include:
• Library with Internet access
• Lounge with audiovisual facilities
• Dining room
• Two sun decks
• Jacuzzi
• Swimming platform

Fine Dining
To delight the gourmet palate, Callisto’s steward and kitchen staff seek fresh provisions from many ports of call. Guests savor just-caught fish and perfectly ripened produce from local markets, resulting in menus of classic regional specialties as well as creative Continental fare. Select regional wines are complimentary with lunch and dinner, and beginning in 2008, there will be open bar service throughout the day. Meals are served at a single, unassigned seating in the elegantly-styled dining room, surrounded by large picture windows. Weather permitting, guests may also dine al fresco on the broad sun decks.

An Uncommon Advantage
Callisto’s compact size allows visits to unspoiled islets, pristine beaches and intimate coves inaccessible to larger cruise-liners. At once large enough to offer every possible comfort, she is small enough to navigate tiny inlets and berth in exclusive harbors, taking travelers where few have ever gone.
