What's your Adventure?

Day 1 Istanbul, Turkey / Embark

Named Constantinople by Emperor Constantine the Great in a.d. 330, Istanbul has been the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. Here the traditions of East and West commingle, which is especially evident in the diverse architecture of the city. Board Callisto and sail.

Day 2 Nessebur, Bulgaria

Arrive in charming Nessebur, known in ancient times as Messembria, or “town amid the sea,” according to Herodotus. Enjoy a walking tour of the town and its old timbered houses. Visit the Byzantine churches of St. Stephen and Christ of the Pantocrator and the Archaeological Museum. View the city’s ancient ruins, which date mostly from the Hellenistic period and include an acropolis, a Temple of Apollo, and an agora.

Day 3 Constanta, Romania

Arrive in Constanta, Romania’s main port. A tour of the city will include the Ruins of Tomis Danubius, the Archaeological and National History Museum, the Archaeology Park, the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, and Piata Ovidiu, the central square of the old quarter where you will have time at leisure.

Day 4 Odessa, Ukraine

Stroll through Odessa’s elegant leafy streets, lined with stately mansions. Discover its prime landmarks, including the grand, Viennese Baroque-style Opera House; the historic Potemkin Steps, site of the 1905 uprising of workers and sailors from the battleship Potemkin; and the Archaeological Museum. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to meet with local families in their homes, or enjoy time at leisure in the city.

Day 5 Sevastopol / Chersonesos

Arrive in Sevastopol, a beautiful port city and the former base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet from the days of Catherine II until the fall of the Soviet Union. Drive to nearby Chersonesos, an ancient city founded by Greeks in the 5th century b.c. that became a prosperous trading post. Return to Sevastopol to visit the Panorama Museum, featuring a circular, three-dimensional work of art depicting the defense of the city during the Crimean War. In the afternoon, enjoy time at leisure in Sevastopol, or alternatively, drive to the Crimean interior to explore Bakhchysaray, the seat of the Tatar state from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Visit the imperial Khan’s Palace, built in 1519.

Day 6 Yalta

In the mid-19th century, the Russian imperial family chose Yalta for its summer residence, and almost overnight the town mushroomed into an elegant and popular resort. Tour the Alupka Palace, a stunning 19th-century edifice with both English Tudor and Byzantine embellishments, and Anton Chekhov’s House. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Livadia Palace, famed site of the 1945 Yalta Conference among Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin, and attend a private concert at its Organ Hall.

Day 7 Sinop, Turkey

Perched on a promontory overlooking the Black Sea, Sinop’s natural harbor allowed the town to be utilized as a major port since 4500 B.C. Colonizers from Miletus founded the town in the 8th century B.C., naming it for Sinope, daughter of Asopus, the river god. Sinop was also home to the Cynic philosopher Diogenes. Explore the town’s main monuments, including the 13th-century Alaettin Mosque, and the Balatar Kilisesi, once a Roman temple that was later converted to a Byzantine church, as well as the Archaeological Museum.

Day 8 Amasra

Arrive in Amasra, a town situated atop a headland sheltering two bays. Known as Sesamus in ancient times, Amasra is one of the most beautiful towns on the coast. Founded by Milesians in the 6th century B.C., the city later became an important possession of both Byzantium and Genoa. On a tour of this pleasant and idyllic town, visit the Genoese citadel, which crowns one of the promontories with a formidable constellation of towers, battlements, and gates.

Day 9 Istanbul, Turkey / Disembark

Disembark in Istanbul and transfer to the airport for return flights to the U.S.

    Ship Highlights

  • Luxury Expedition Ship

Callisto is the last word in sophistication. The guest list is limited to 34—a group large enough to bring together an interesting mix, but small enough to foster a true spirit of community. Cabins are more like guest rooms in a fine home -- beautifully furnished, comfortably arranged, and complete with the little extras one would expect from a thoughtful host. The yacht's public areas, whether indoors or out on deck, are warm, inviting places where friends meet for conversation, a drink, or to pass a pleasant hour with a good book. The cuisine is superb. And the service is considerate and congenial for the best in luxury cruising of the Mediterranean, coastal Africa, Greek Isles and more.

Callisto was designed with the comfort of her guests in mind. All staterooms are exterior with large windows (portholes on Daphne Deck) that look out on the sea and the yacht's various ports of call; they are air conditioned and feature generous storage space, a telephone, two-channel radio, and a marble bath with shower. The yacht's public areas include a spacious lounge; a dining room in which all guests are accommodated at a single unassigned seating; two broad decks for sunbathing and dining alfresco; and a swimming platform at the yacht's stern. The Callisto flies the Greek flag and is served by a crew of 18.

Amenities
Beautifully appointed and filled with amenities one would expect to find in a fine country house, the 17 cabins feature large windows (portholes on the Daphne Deck) that look out on the sea. Cabins also feature:
• Satellite TV, DVD/CD player
• Telephone
• Mini-refrigerator
• Marble-appointed bathroom with fine toiletries
• Plush terry robes and slippers
• Fresh flowers and fruit basket
• 24-hour room service

Decorated with rich fabrics, handsome wood, polished brass, rare antiquities and fine works of art, the yacht’s public spaces are warm and inviting. These include:
• Library with Internet access
• Lounge with audiovisual facilities
• Dining room
• Two sun decks
• Jacuzzi
• Swimming platform

Fine Dining
To delight the gourmet palate, Callisto’s steward and kitchen staff seek fresh provisions from many ports of call. Guests savor just-caught fish and perfectly ripened produce from local markets, resulting in menus of classic regional specialties as well as creative Continental fare. Select regional wines are complimentary with lunch and dinner, and beginning in 2008, there will be open bar service throughout the day. Meals are served at a single, unassigned seating in the elegantly-styled dining room, surrounded by large picture windows. Weather permitting, guests may also dine al fresco on the broad sun decks.

An Uncommon Advantage
Callisto’s compact size allows visits to unspoiled islets, pristine beaches and intimate coves inaccessible to larger cruise-liners. At once large enough to offer every possible comfort, she is small enough to navigate tiny inlets and berth in exclusive harbors, taking travelers where few have ever gone.
