Day 1 PANAMA CITY | COLÓN, Panama | EMBARK
Upon arrival in Panama City, transfer to Colón, on the Caribbean coast, to embark Clelia II. Overnight in Colón.
Day 2 COLÓN
Explore Soberania National Park, a rain forest that is home to 500 species of birds and howler and capuchin monkeys; or visit the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, a biological reserve in Gatun Lake. Overnight in Colón.
Day 3 TRANSIT OF THE PANAMA CANAL
Clelia II transits the historic Panama Canal, passing from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The scenery and mechanics of the transit are fascinating, with the ship being raised and lowered a total of 85 feet.
Day 4 LA PALMA | PUERTO LARA | LA PALMA, Darién
Sail to La Palma and take local boats upriver to Puerto Lara, where Wounaan Indians welcome us and teach us their traditional dances and handicrafts.

Take a full-day air excursion (a 30-minute flight) to Quito, Ecuador’s capital, famed for its location at the foot of a volcano in the Andes and for its colonial architecture.
Day 8 AT SEA
Relax aboard as Clelia II cruises along the coast of Peru.
Day 9 SALAVERRY | HUACA DE LA LUNA & HUACA DEL SOL | CHAN CHAN | SALAVERRY, Peru
Visit Huaca de la Luna and see Huaca del Sol, pyramids from the Moche culture, a remarkable pre-Inca civilization. Continue to Chan Chan, imperial capital of the Chimú (A.D. 1000-1470), and the world’s largest adobe city.
Day 10 SALAVERRY | EL BRUJO or TRUJILLO | SALAVERRY
Visit El Brujo Archaeological Complex and the newly opened Museo de Cao or tour Trujillo, founded by the Spanish in 1534 and known for its colonial architecture.
OPTIONAL 2-NIGHT EXCURSION TO CUZCO & MACHU PICCHU
Discover Cuzco, the center of the Inca Empire, and Machu Picchu, the Inca site set atop towering mountains. Those who opt for this excursion fly from Trujillo to Cuzco on the morning of October 22 and rejoin the ship in Callao on October 24.

Day 11 CALLAO | LIMA | CALLAO
Spend the day in Lima, Peru’s capital, founded in 1535. Visit the historical city center, the National Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, and the Gold Museum, a private collection of pre-Columbian treasures.
Day 12 CALLAO | PACHACÁMAC | PURUCHUCO | CALLAO
Before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16th century, the area around Lima contained vibrant cities. Explore two that predate the Spanish conquest: Pachacámac, a vast complex of palaces, pyramids, and buildings, and Puruchuco, the palace of a local nobleman.
Day 13 SAN MARTIN | PARACAS | BALLESTAS ISLANDS | SAN MARTIN
Explore the Paracas peninsula, a reserve protecting an important marine ecosystem. Paracas was also a pre-Nazca necropolis, with over 400 mummies excavated. Also discover the Ballestas Islands, home to thousands of seabirds.
Day 14 SAN JUAN | NAZCA | SAN JUAN
Travel to Nazca, named for the culture that lived here from A.D. 200-800. Via small aircraft, fly over the Nazca Lines, giant, mysterious designs (a condor, etc.) drawn in the desert by the Nazca or another early culture.

Days 16-17 TOCOPILLA | SAN PEDRO de ATACAMA | ANTOFAGASTA, Chile
From charming San Pedro de Atacama, explore the lunar-like landscape of the Valley of the Moon. Also visit the Padre le Paige Archaeological Museum and the Pucara de Quitor, a fortified village. Spend October 28 at Hotel Kunza in San Pedro. Return to the ship October 29 after a short flight from Calama.

Day 19 VALPARAÍSO
Valparaíso is built on a series of hills facing a bay. Tour its oldest part (barrio puerto); the Naval Museum; and La Sebastiana, Pablo Neruda’s house.
Day 20 VALPARAÍSO | SANTIAGO | VALPARAÍSO
Tour Santiago, Chile’s capital near the foot of the Andes. Landmarks include the Plaza de Armas, 18th-century Cathedral, and Museum of Pre-Columbian Art.

Puerto Montt was founded by Germans in the mid-1850s. Drive through lush scenery and dense forest to the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, a land of magnificent vistas ringed with volcanoes and mountains.
Day 24 CASTRO, Chiloé Island
Visit some of Chiloé Island’s beautiful churches (many noted as UNESCO World Heritage sites) and drive to the picturesque village of Conchi. Or, explore Chiloé National Park.
Day 25 CHACABUCO | AIKEN RESERVE | CHACABUCO
Discover the private Aiken Reserve, where Patagonian biodiversity is found in its purest condition.
Days 26-27 CHILE’S FJORDS AND PUERTO NATALES
Enjoy a vista of mountains, fjords, and forests as Clelia II cruises through the channels lining Chile’s Patagonian Coast. Arrive in Puerto Natales on November 8 after navigating the narrow Kirke Pass.

Take a full-day excursion to awesome Torres del Paine National Park, filled with twisted peaks, waterfalls, and lakes.
Day 29 THE CHILEAN FJORDS
Navigating through the Reina Adelaida Archipelago’s channels, round the western entrance of the Magellan Strait.
Day 30 PUNTA ARENAS
Chilean Patagonia’s main city, Punta Arenas prospered in the 19th century from the wool trade. Tour the Salesiano Maggiorino Borgatello Museum, with exhibits on Patagonian tribes, and the wool boom-era Sara Brown House.
Day 31 TIERRA del FUEGO WATERWAYS
Navigate the intricate Tierra del Fuego waterways, where snow-capped mountains and glaciers dominate the landscape.
Days 32-33 CRUISE TO ANTARCTICA
Days 34-38 ANTARCTIC PENINSULA & ISLANDS
Enjoy five days in pristine Antarctica. Sailing through scenic waterways, see glaciers and snow-capped mountains. Via Zodiac, cruise among ice floes and explore penguin rookeries. The itinerary varies per ice/wind conditions, but we plan to land at places like Petermann Island, where humpback and minke whales are often seen, and Paradise Bay, habitat of leopard seals. Voyages through protected channels are also planned.

Fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Connect with flights.
