What's your Adventure?

Day 1 Resolute, Nunavut

The magic and mystery of the far north can hardly be escaped as you combine its landscapes, people and communities into a favorite high Arctic adventure. Undertake an exploration of Devon Island before visiting Grise Fiord - the community with the honor of being the furthest north in Canada.

From here, embark on an attempt to sail further north (dependent on ice conditions, of course!) into the Kane Basin in Smith Sound. Here the vista should be filled with ice - a perfect scene for photographers!

After crossing the Davis Strait, arrive in Greenland, a place where the ice comes alive in iridescent blues, jagged peaks reach for the heavens, delicate tundra flowers nestle in tiny crevasses, towns are a brilliant montage of colour and much of the landscape seems untouched by human hands. This self-governing province of Denmark is the largest island in the world, covering nearly 3.5 million km2, more than 80 percent is covered either by the ice cap or small glaciers.

Throughout the voyage you will have ample opportunities to view and photograph the unique wildlife that calls the Arctic home. Narwhal, beluga, polar bears, and the rare and immaculately white Ivory Gull are all found here. Nesting colonies on Coburg and Prince Leopold Islands host tens of thousands of Thick-billed Murres and Black-legged Kittiwakes. You are also likely to encounter shorebirds, Dovekie, Northern Fulmar, and, with luck, Gyrfalcon. At each stop, board zodiacs to go ashore, or position ourselves for the best views or photographs of the wildlife, flowers, icebergs and landscapes.

Daily port specifics and daily details pending, please check back soon!

Day 2 Beechey Island, Nunavut

An important Migratory Bird Sanctuary, the spectacular sandstone cliffs are the nesting home to thousands of thick-billed murres, northern fulmars and blacklegged kittiwakes. At Beechey Island explore remnants of Sir John Franklin’s camp and the headstones of those not lucky enough
to survive the ordeal.

Day 3 Devon Island

The largest uninhabited island in the world supports significant concentrations of wildlife, including 26 species of seabirds and 11 species of
marine mammals. Seek out Muskox and cruise amongst
the bergs.

Day 4 Coburg Island

Cobourg Island is 65% covered with ice, but the remaining ragged land is a haven for wildlife. Cliff ledges are filled to capacity with 30,000 pairs of Black- Legged Kittiwakes and 160,000 pairs of Brunnich’s Guillemot (Thick-Billed Murres)
among other seabirds.

Day 5 Grise Fiord (Aujuittuq)

Aujuittuq means “place that never thaws,” and at 1,150km above the Arctic Circle, it is Canada’s
northernmost civilian community, with a population of 165. Explore the charming town, getting a taste
for life in the Arctic.

Day 6 Smith Sound

Today venture north into this fabled body of
water that served as the main route between Ellesmere and Greenland for explorers and adventurers searching for the North Pole.

Day 7 Kap York, Greenland

The surprisingly lush coastal environment is rich in wildlife and is part of an extensive network of traditional hunting grounds. During the spring and summer months the skies and cliffs are dotted with millions of birds. Hike the tundra landscape and enjoy the magnificent vistas.

Day 8 Karrat Fjord

In Karrat Fjord cruise one of Greenland’s most
interesting fjords as your ship is surrounded by ice. Time spent on deck today should result in some good wildlife sightings, not to mention unbeatable photographic opportunities.

Day 9 Ilulissat

Ilulissat translates literally into “iceberg”, and there couldn’t be a more fitting name. Your visit will include time in the colorful town and
a chance to hike out to the great fields of ice. Enjoy a Zodiac cruise around the UNESCO World
Heritage Site of the Ilulissat Icefjord.

Day 10 Itilleq

Living in a small town that relies primarily on fishing for its existence, Itilleq’s residents are closely tied to the land and its resources. Beautifully colored houses speckle the rocky
landscape and there is a nice walk up to the local cemetery with a lovely view.

Day 11 Kangerlusuaq, Greenland

This morning make your journey down Sondre Stromfjord. Early risers will have a chance to
experience the beauty of the fjord. Departing
Kangerlussuaq, it is possible to see the largest ice cap in the world from your airplane window.

    Ship Highlights
  • Passengers : 110

Adventurer is a handsome expedition vessel reminiscent of the days of the great ocean liners, with lots of varnished wood and brass. She sails on a wide variety of cruises — in Europe, the Canadian Arctic, the U.S., South America, and Antarctica.

Built in 1975 as the Alla Tarasova in the former Yugoslavia, the 122-passenger M/S Adventurer underwent a $13-million conversion in 1998 in Scandinavia. The new features include: 61 comfortable, all-outside cabins, with lower beds, private bathroom facilities, and individual temperature controls to offer the most comfortable Antarctica tours possible. The window-lined dining room seats all passengers at leisurely single seatings, where superb American and Continental cuisine is served by the friendly staff. There are two lounges — the Main Lounge and Bar on Promenade Deck, seating 130 passengers; and the Clipper Club, also on Promenade Deck, seating 45 passengers. There’s also a library/card room, a small workout room, a gift shop, and a hair salon.

Unique to the Adventurer is a spacious, covered promenade with a beautiful wooden deck (varnished Oregon pine) where passengers can view the seascapes during their Antarctica travels. There’s also plenty of open deck space on the Boat Deck and Sun Deck, while an observation platform located forward below the Bridge is ideal for wildlife viewing.

The Adventurer is an oceangoing vessel equipped with an ice-strengthened hull (A-1 ice class) ideally suited for cruises in such remote environments that Antarctica tours can offer, but supremely comfortable anywhere she sails. A fleet of Zodiac landing craft provides access to areas where no infrastructure exists. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communication equipment including telephone, fax, and e-mail.

The Captain and his officers maintain an open bridge to give passengers an opportunity to observe and ask questions. An experienced cruise staff, physician, and on board lecturers accompany all voyages to enhance the passengers’ enjoyment of the places visited.
