Day 1 Istanbul, Turkey / Embark

Upon arrival, transfer to the pier to board Corinthian II for your Istanbul to Casablanca cruise - grand Mediterranean journey to shores less traveled. Overnight aboard ship. (D)

Day 2 Istanbul

Tour Istanbul’s principal landmarks, including the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, and the cathedral-size Basilica Cistern. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Kusadasi / Ephesus

Drive to the ancient city of Ephesus, renowned for its great mother goddess Cybele, later identified as Artemis or Diana of the Ephesians. The immense Hellenistic and Roman excavation site includes the ancient theater, the imposing Library of Celsus, and the theater where the Ephesians rioted against St. Paul. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Rethymnon / Knossos

Land in Crete, the island that was home of the Minoan civilization, Europe’s first. In the afternoon, tour Knossos, the most imposing Minoan palace of the island. Enjoy your first musical performance in Rethymnon this evening. (B, L, D)

Day 5 At Sea

Spend a relaxing day at sea listening to your second musical performance. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Syracuse, Sicily, Italy

In Syracuse, discover the spectacular 15,000-seat Greek theater and the elliptical Roman amphitheater. After a visit to the Archaeological Museum, walk the winding lanes of Old Town, situated on the island of Ortygia, and explore the remains of the Temple of Apollo, the Fountain of Aretusa, and the Cathedral, which houses the Temple of Athena. Day 7 Valletta, Malta

Corinthian II sails into the dramatic Grand Harbor of Malta’s Valletta. Explore St. John’s Co-Cathedral, an opulent repository for Malta’s finest art treasures; the Palace of the Grand Masters; and the National Museum of Archaeology. Enjoy your third musical performance at the Palazzo Parisio. (B, L, D)

Day 8 Sousse, Tunisia / El Djem

Land at Sousse for an excursion to El Djem and explore its great Roman amphitheater, built in the 3rd century a.d. to house 35,000 spectators. Continue to the Museum, with its fine collection of mosaics. (B, L, D)

Day 9 Tunis / Carthage or Dougga

Arrive in Tunis and tour storied Carthage, founded in the 9th century b.c. Also tour the Bardo Museum and in Tunis, visit the Medina and its souks. Alternatively, take a full-day excursion to Dougga, the largest and most imposing Roman site in Tunisia. The fourth musical performance will be arranged at the Acropolium in Carthage. (B, L, D)

Day 10 Annaba, Algeria / Hippo Regius

From Annaba, visit the ancient site of Hippo Regius. Explore the Roman Forum, the largest and oldest in North Africa, and the Baths, dedicated to Septimius Severus. Also visit the modern-day Basilica of St. Augustine. (B, L, D)

Day 11 Bejaia / Djemila

From Bejaia, take an excursion through impressive countryside to the well-preserved Roman ruins of Djemila. The site includes the Triumphal Arch to Emperor Caracalla, Grand Baths, market, and Old Forum. Also visit the museum, with its collection of superb mosaics and other artifacts. (B, L, D)

Day 12 At Sea

Enjoy the day at sea relaxing, attending engaging lectures, and listening to the fifth scheduled musical performance. (B, L, D)

Day 13 Ghazaouet / Tlemcen

Drive to Tlemcen, one of Algeria’s finest cities. Experience the 11th-century Great Mosque and the deconsecrated Sidi Bel Hassan Mosque, now housing a museum. (B, L, D)

Day 14 Gibraltar / Tangier, Morocco

In Gibraltar Corinthian II ascends to the top of the Rock. Visit Saint Michael’s Cave and see Gibraltar’s famed tailless monkeys. Sailing across the Strait arrive in Tangier. Spend the afternoon exploring the medina, a classic Moroccan town. Also visit the Dar el Makhzen and the Old American Legation. (B, L, D)

Day 15 Casablanca / Rabat

Drive to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital. Tour its Medina, the Chellah Citadel, and the Kasbah des Oudaias, the evocative quarter of the old Almohad, Merenid and Andalusian towns. Then, spend the day in Casablanca and tour its Hassan II Mosque. In Rabat, enjoy your sixth and final musical performance. (B, L, D)

Day 16 Casablanca / Disembark

Disembark and transfer to the airport for return flights to the U.S.

The distinguished 114-guest Corinthian II offers a classic yacht-like atmosphere and fine accommodations. Corinthian II is ice-strengthened for voyages into Antarctic waters, and is equipped with a fleet of Zodiac inflatable craft for forays ashore. Originally built in 1992 and refurbished in 2005, Corinthian II accommodates all guests in 57 outside suites, each affording sea views and elegantly appointed with a sitting area, TV, mini-refrigerator, safe, and other amenities as well as a marble bathroom. Several suites include private balconies accessed via sliding glass doors. Spacious and finely decorated public areas include a library stocked with books related to the itinerary and other volumes, and four computer terminals for e-mail access; an elegant lounge; and The Club, a space for convivial relaxation, with picture windows for panoramic views. The restaurant, serving fine cuisine prepared by European chefs, accommodates all guests at a single unassigned seating. The ship also includes a gym, beauty salon, a sun deck with Jacuzzi, and an outdoor café and bar, where meals may be served al fresco. Corinthian II is served by 70 experienced European officers and crew. There is also an elevator offering access to all decks.
