On this expansive journey, set sail from Casablanca and travel down the West African coast. Embrace your inner explorer as you cross the Atlantic and visit the vibrant ports of the South American shoreline. En route, discover natural and cultural wonders that explorers have treasured for centuries, including the volcanic archipelago of the Cape Verde Islands; the Saharan dunes of Africa; the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Salvador and Olinda, Brazil; and the Falkland Islands, renowned for their mythical beauty and exotic wildlife. Our ship for this passage will be the all-suite Corinthian II, a luxurious private yacht with spacious lounges, a library, and broad decks for sunning and relaxing.

From the port of El Marsa, drive inland across Saharan dunes to reach Laayoune, the main city in Morocco’s Western Sahara. Explore the Spanish-Saharan architecture of the city’s old district; the Museum of Traditional Arts; and the Artisans Center’s craft workshops. After visiting a nearby oasis, where you will enjoy an elaborate Saharan tea show, end the day with a drive in the dunes. (B, L, D)

Day 6 SANTO ANTÃO, Cape Verde Islands
Arrive in the rugged Cape Verde Islands, an isolated archipelago in the Atlantic, discovered by European mariners and explorers in the 15th century. Strategically positioned in the old Atlantic sailing route, the islands were of major importance in the slave trade between Europe and the New World. Land at Santo Antão island, whose piercing volcanic peaks and canyons are one of the world’s great landscape panoramas. Travel from Porto Novo to Ribeira Grande, a drive that will reveal the island’s unforgettable landscape, to visit its capital. (B, L, D)

Call at the port of Recife, founded by the Dutch in 1637. Tour the town’s principal monuments, including the Convent of St. Francis, with beautiful Portuguese tiles, and the adjoining Golden Chapel. Day 14 SALVADOR
Founded by the Portuguese in 1549 on the magnificent Bahia de Todos Los Santos—and Brazil’s former capital—Salvador remains one of the country’s highlights. The city’s historic district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains some of the most important colonial architecture in the Americas. Spend the morning on a walking tour of the old Pelourinho district, a maze of streets and elegant squares lined with pastel mansions, imposing churches, artists’ workshops, and antique shops. This afternoon, visit the Museum of Bahian Art, housed in a mansion formerly owned by the Goes Calmon family, and see its exhibits of colonial arts and works of modern Bahian artists. (B, L, D)

Days 17-18 RIO DE JANEIRO
Beautifully situated between lush mountains and the sea, Rio—the Cidade Maravilhosa (“Marvelous City”)—is undoubtedly one of the world’s most impressive metropolises. Take the cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Peak, where breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding bay await you at the summit. Then board the funicular for a ride up Corcovado Peak, crowned by the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, which overlooks Rio and the sea. The ride leads through the beautiful Parque Nacional de Tijuca, a lush tropical forest with numerous species of flowers, trees, and birds. (B, L, D)
Day 19 SANTOS | SÃO PAULO or GUARUJA | SANTOS
From Santos, travel to dynamic São Paulo. Discover the city’s historic buildings, contemporary architecture, and its Museu de Arte. Enjoy free time on the famous Avenida Paulista, perhaps exploring its elegant cafes and boutiques. Alternatively, spend the day in Guaruja and Santos. In Guaruja, visit the most famous beaches on the coast of the São Paulo State and take a walk along the water. In Santos, Brazil’s most important port and the center of the country’s coffee exports, visit the Orchid Garden, coffee exchange, and a 200-year-old historical church. (B, L, D)

From Paranagua, take the train to the inland town of Curitiba, via Brazil’s most spectacular rail journey, glimpsing high peaks, deep gorges and waterfalls en route. Curitiba is one of Brazil’s loveliest towns, with shaded squares and distinctive architecture.(B, L, D)

Day 24 MAR DEL PLATA, ARGENTINA
One of Argentina’s oldest and most famous resorts, Mar del Plata is now a thriving city. From Rambla, a promenade facing Playa Bristol, explore the city, including the Cathedral; the Villa Ortiz Basualdo, housing the Municipal Museum of Art; the Victoria Ocampo Cultural Center, an early 1900s house in lovely gardens; and the Sea Museum. Day 26 PUERTO MADRYN & the VALDÉS PENINSULA
Call at the Patagonian town of Puerto Madryn for an excursion to the Valdés Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The Gulfs of San Jose and Nuevo lie on either side of the peninsula, which allow for ideal observation of its unique marine wildlife such as the southern right whale, the sea lion, and the southern elephant seal. Days 29-30 WESTPOINT ISLAND | SAUNDERS ISLAND | STANLEY, Falkland Islands
Spend two days exploring the wildlife-rich Falkland Islands, including Westpoint Island, where we’ll walk across the moors to a rookery of Black-Browed Albatross and Rockhopper Penguins. On Saunders Island, explore the dramatic beaches, teeming with Gentoo and Magellanic Penguins, as well as Cormorant and Black-Browed Albatross colonies. Arrive in Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost town, situated on the Beagle Channel, with the mountains of Tierra del Fuego as a backdrop. Disembark and transfer to the airport for the flight to the United States via Buenos Aires. (B)
