Join the Island Sky for a 13-day Iceland cruise! This Arctic tour circumnavigates Iceland and takes you to the remote ports of Vigur, Adalvik, Siglufjordur, and more. View whales and birdlife along the cliffs, learn about the unique history and traditions of these ports and explore Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive in Reykjavik and transfer to the Grand Hotel Reykjavik. Take the remainder of the day to explore Iceland's capital city at your leisure. In the evening, gather for a welcome reception and dinner before overnighting at the hotel.
Day 2: Reykjavik / Embark
After breakfast, begin your circumnavigation of Iceland! Arrive at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is surrounded by mountains and encompasses a vast lava plain of green moss and wildflowers. Transfer to Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geysir Center, a large geothermal field of boiling and tranquil multi-hued hot springs, as well as bubbling mud pools. After lunch, proceed to the pier and board the Island Sky. Overnight at sea.
Day 3: Flatey Island / Latrabjarg
Take a zodiac and trace the coastline of Flatey Island before going ashore for a walking tour of the village. View the uniquely painted church and the restored houses of the islanders who fish for cod and lumpfish for a living. In the evening, sail past Iceland’s westernmost cape, the Latrabjarg cliff.
Day 4: Vigur Island / Isafjordur
After breakfast, take a walking tour of Vigur, the summer home to vast numbers of puffins, black guillemots, Arctic terns, and eiders. The community of Vigur dates back to the late 1800s and features Iceland’s only windmill. Cruise northward towards Isafjordur, the trading and cultural center of the West Fjords. Take a cultural tour and learn about the history and daily life of one of Iceland’s oldest fishing settlements. In the afternoon, browse the local shops and walk around Vigur's quaint streets.
Day 5: Adalvik / Hornvik
Arrive at Adalvik Bay, a five-mile-wide cove which is flanked by mountains. Board a zodiac and set off for Hornstrandir Nature Reserve for hiking along the sandy beaches and flower-bedecked tundra. Along the way, view the houses of Hesteyri, a fishing village which was abandoned in 1952 due to its remote location. After lunch aboard the Island Sky, take a zodiac tour for an afternoon cruise through Hornvik Cove. The stunning cliffs that flank the cove are home to thousands of nesting birds.
Day 6: Grimsey Island
Though Grímsey Island sits astride the Arctic Circle, it enjoys a mild climate and is covered with rich vegetation. Depending on the weather, go ashore to visit the Viking hamlet of Sandvik. This small community is the home to 100 permanent residents who earn their livings from fishing and fish processing. Board a zodiac and cruise along Grímsey’s basaltic cliffs.
Day 7: Siglufjordur / Akureyri
In the morning, arrive at Siglufjordur, which was once the undisputed herring fishing capital of the Atlantic. Visit the Herring Era Museum to view its vividly depicted culture and traditional dances. Cruise into the Eyjafjordur Fjord and arrive in Akureyri, Iceland’s second-largest city.
Day 8: Akureyri / Husavik
Depart on a full-day inland tour of the Mývatn region. Thousands of years ago, the regions dramatic landscape was created by volcanic eruptions and formed labyrinthine lava formations, seething sulfur pits, and boiling mud pools. Lake Mývatn sits on the edge of a vast highland lava desert and is one of Europe’s richest waterfowl breeding areas. Continue to Húsavík and stay on deck watch for humpback, minke, fin, orca, and sei whales.
Day 9: Thistilfjord Bay
Arrive at Thistilfjord Bay and spend the day enjoying nature walks and zodiac cruising. Explore the chiseled headlands and dramatic sea stacks which rise from the bay.
Day 10: Seydisfjordur
Cruise along the 11-mile coastline of Seydisfjördur to view a showcase of scenic wonderland: stunning geology, cascading waterfalls, and soaring mountains. A natural harbor shelters the Seydisfjordur fishing town, renowned for its brightly painted 19th-century wooden buildings.
Day 11: Höfn
Arrive at the fishing community of Höfn, the gateway to Europe’s largest glacier. The southeastern corner of Iceland is covered by the shimmering white Vatnajökull Glacier, a 1,000-foot-thick ice field. Take a drive to a waiting fleet of snowmobiles and take a guided excursion across the vast expanses of ice. After lunch, set out on an unforgettable boat ride on Jokulsarlon Lake and sail among its aquamarine icebergs.
Day 12: Heimaey Island / Surtsey Island
Stop on Heimaey Island and visit the Herjolfsdalur Valley to view the ruins of farmhouses dating back to 650 A.D. Pass between two volcanoes, one 5,000 years old, the other born only in 1973, and drive across the newer volcano’s crater and into the town known as the 'Pompeii of the North.' In the afternoon, circumnavigate Surtsey Island, a fire-and-brimstone result of a 1963 undersea eruption.
Day 13: Reykjavik / Disembark
After breakfast, disembark the Island Sky and join a tour of Krysuvik and its surrounding geothermal wonderland. Continue to Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon for lunch and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

- Rates are quoted in U.S. dollars and represent costs per person, double occupancy. Request the Twin Share Program where you are matched with a cabin mate of the same gender. Even if a cabin mate is not found for you, no single supplement will be charged.
- Cabins may be available for single occupancy at 1.6 times the double occupancy rate. The supplement for a suite is 2 times the shared rate.
Mandatory medical insurance: Travelers should have a minimum US$50,000 (or equivalent) of emergency medical coverage prior to embarkation. The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.

Our travel was flawless! The rider pickup (airport, hotel, ship) was seamless. Jane's recommendation for Emerald Cruise Sakara was everything I wanted but the experience was soooo much more. Adventure Life took care of each and every detail and this was the easiest of all my travels.

I spoke with at least a half dozen other travel companies, looking for a Galapagos cruise that fit our schedule and budget. Some companies could manage one or the other, but Erin was the only one who could do both. She found us the perfect cruise, at a fantastic price! And she has been quick and patient with responses to my many questions. So far, Adventure Life has been a fantastic company to work with!

Adventure Life took care of everything! All we had to do was show up when we were supposed to, which made our first trip to Costa Rica largely stress-free and incredibly fun. Our trip reps, Hannah and Mariethony, were helpful and responsive, getting back to us by email usually within a few hours. Our accommodations were all great, and we got incredibly blessed with some absolutely stellar guides and drivers.
Our Jungle & Beach trip was an excellent balance of adventure and rest. We got to try out a lot of different activities, including snorkeling, hiking, white water rafting and kayaking, while also partaking of some rest around the pool or by the ocean. We enjoyed seeing and exploring the beautiful Caribbean side of the country.
