Day 1: Longyearbyen

Board the L'Austral in the evening and settle into your stateroom while you prepare for your upcoming Arctic voyage.

Day 2: Svalbard, North West National Park

Navigate into the waters off North West National Park. The park contains warm springs, the remains of volcanoes in Bockfjorden, and a variety of birdlife. Board a zodiac excursion around the park for widlife spotting.

Day 3: Svalbard / Magdalena Bay

Arrive in Magdalena Bay and explore it's numerous fjords via zodiac.

Day 4: Svalbard - Ny Alesund / Krossfjorden

Sail into Krossfjorden, a 19 mile fjord on the west coast of Spitsbergen. Krossfjorden is the largest and only permanently populated island of Norway's Svalbard archipelago in Norway. To the north, the fjord branches into Lillehookfjorden, Möllerfjorden and Kollerfjorden.

Day 5: At Sea

Spend the day at sea and admire the magnificent ice formations while watching for whales.

Day 6: Sailing Past Jan Mayen

Port details pending.

Day 7: Crossing Polar Circle - Grimsey

Cross the legendary Polar Circle and set sail for Grimsey, a little island located approximately 25 miles north of mainland Iceland. Formed from volcanic rock which has generated majestic basalt pillars, the island is a delight for travelers and photographers. The island has been inhabited since the Vikings came to Iceland, and legend says that it takes its name from the colonial sailor Grimur, who sailed from the region of Sogn, Norway. The site is home to a fabulous variety of wildlife.

Day 8: Isafjordur

Arrive in Isafjordur, a small town in the northwest of Iceland. The town used to have one of the largest fisheries in Iceland, but after several fishing restrictions passed in the 1980's, many of the inhabitants left Isafjordur to search for work elsewhere. Despite its size, small population, and historical isolation from the rest of the country, the town features an urban atmosphere.

Day 9: Reykjavik

In the morning, arrive in Reykjavik, Iceland's capital, and disembark. Transfer to the airport for your continued flights.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
