Le Boreal invites you to discover a true Canadian experience: an unforgettable cruise among the waters of the Far North. Canada owes its irresistible charm to the exceptional natural sanctuary and vastness of untouched land in its northern regions. Enjoy the spectacular color palette of Autumn - flamboyant shades, only the Indian summer can cause - and watch for whales that frequent the icy waters of this region.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive in Quebec, capital of French-speaking Canada. Board Le Boreal between 5 and 6 PM. Settle in to your cabin and familiarize yourself with the ship and her crew.
Day 2: Saguenay, Canada
With more than 70 miles of hiking trails, Saguenay National Park is a great area to discover this magnificent landscape on foot. Choose from one of two optional excursions to experience this area. Hike to view the park's colossal Saguenay Fjord, deeply chiseled in the Laurentian Mountain, and its surrounding mountains and valleys. Explore the park at a leisurely pace as your walk one of the many trails, take in a lecture and the interpretation center, or just meander on your own.
Alternately, uncover more of Quebec's early colonial history at the meticulously restored living museum, New France. Colorful character bring alive the 17th century to explain the First Nations and French heritage of contemporary Quebecois culture. You can also experience important events in the region's history as you enjoy an exhilarating and grandiose live stage show, "La Fabuleuse," which features the history of the Saguenay Lac St. Jean's Kingdom from 1603 to today.
Day 3: Tadoussac, Canada
Located at the mouth of the River Saguenay, Tadoussac is the bastion of the history of New-France’s colonization. It is now a National Park on one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and the best place to see whales as they gather here to feed before Winter sets in. Above the bay, nature has deployed all her forces to bring you a breathtaking panorama of a vast ocean.
Take in the historical and natural highlights on a guided walking tour that takes you to the Greve Gardens and the Chauvin Trading Post, a recreation of the first Canadian fur trading post, and finally to the Tadoussac Hotel where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the bay and the St. Lawrence River.
Take advantage of this locale's whale watching opportunities on one of two optional excursions. Embark on a zodiac tour led by naturalist/captains or on a local boat, take in the magnificent scenery on your way to the confluence of the river and the ocean - the perfect spot to meet these giants of the sea.
Day 4: Havre-Saint-Pierre, Canada
From the pier in Havre-Saint-Pierre, depart on one of the optional excursions that will take you to the Mingan Archepelago. Located beyon the 50th parallel and along the northern shore of the St. Lawrence Gulf, lies the remarkably beautiful scattering of nearly thirty limestone islands and more than 1000 granitic islets and reefs. The territory became a national park reserve in 1984. Travel to the Ile Niapiskau where you can discover the origins of the spectacular limestone monuments and observe the abundant coastal wildlife as you explore the island with your Park Canada guide. One excursion will also visit the neighboring Island of Quarry.
Day 5: Perce, Canada
Located at the tip of the Gaspesie Peninsula, Perce boasts a remarkable natural and historical heritage. The cliff-top city, sculpted by the sea, boasts Bonaventure Island as its fortress and the famous Perce Rock, a natural phenomenon entirely surrounded by a ring of arches. The rock is an must-see if you want to catch a glimpse of the majestic Northern Gannet, a seabird with a golden head and blue eyes circled with black. In the bay, you can admire the breathtaking view, and surrender to the quiet calm of the forests and the flowers of the Bonaventure Island National Park. Nature is the indisputable Queen of the region.
Day 6: The Magdalen Islands, Canada
On this stop, choose from two optional excursions. One tour highlights the islands' maritime and Acadian history. Visit heritage sites like Havre-Aubert and La Grave, Site d'Autrefois, the Laverniere church, and others. These locales offer a sense of the activity and atmosphere that shaped the region's culture. Another tour foregrounds the natural and geological history of this area. The Magdalen Islands were formed during the first glacial period over 70 000 years ago, they are mainly formed by long sand dunes created by the constant erosion of the red sandstone cliffs. Visit the salt mines of Grosse Ile, the extraordinary South Dune Beach, and the striking cliffs of Belle-Anse.
Day 7: Louisbourg, Canada
The Fortress of Louisburg is the largest reconstruction project in North America. The original settlement was founded in 1713 by the French and developed over several decades into a thriving center for fishing and trade. Fortified against the threat of British invasion during the turbulent time of empire-building, Louisbourg was besieged twice before finally being destroyed in the 1760s. The site lay untouched until well into modern times, when archaeologists began to reconstruct the fortress as it was in the 18th century.
Experience this living history on your own or on an optional guided tour. More than a dozen buildings open to the public - including three authentic working 18th century restaurants - and hundreds of re-enactors or “animators” of all ages populate the streets of the restored fortress working, playing, and living life as they would have in 1744.

We are so glad that we chose Adventure Life. The service is top-notch. Everything is well taken care of and we just have to print the documents and go. Franny even gave us timely updates on possible airport strike.

Adventure Life has been an extraordinary travel resource for us over the years and today was no exception. Our River Cruise booking was handled by Jess (who has been our personal trip planner for several years) the same day as our inquiry. Suggestions were given for cabin choice and pre-trip options (that were not shown on the cruise line's website) like airport transfers and prepaid gratuities. Trip insurance recommendations followed and we were assigned a travel co-ordinator till the end of the tour. All we have to do is show up! Great service from friendly folks.

Our travel was flawless! The rider pickup (airport, hotel, ship) was seamless. Jane's recommendation for Emerald Cruise Sakara was everything I wanted but the experience was soooo much more. Adventure Life took care of each and every detail and this was the easiest of all my travels.
