Join Le Boreal on this 14-day voyage to discover the striking landscapes of the Pacific coast of South American and the colonial style of Chile's coastal cities. Running between the Andes and the ocean, Chile offers visitors a richly contrasting landscape and pristine vistas. Set out from Valparaiso to discover Patagonia on visits to Tortel and the Tores del Paine Ntional Park on your way to legendary Cape Horn. This trip is truly a unique occasion to sail to the heart of the Chilean waterways, between immaculate archipelagos and tumultuous fjords.

Day 1

    Embark in Ushuaia, Argentina

Arrive in Ushuaia. Embark Le Boreal between 5:30 and 6:30 this evening. Settle in to your cabin and familiarize yourself with the ship and her crew.

    Days 2-4

Cape Horn and the Beagle Channel

Your first contact with this land at the end of the world is Cape Horn, a promontory that in 2005 was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Known to sailors simply as “the Horn”, the summit of this spectacular cliff has a sculpture in the shape of an albatross to honor all those who have perished trying to sail round it. A unique experience awaits you as we cruise through the Beagle Channel exploring the magnificent scenery of the Tierra del Fuego (literally “land of fire”) National Park.

      Day 5

        Puerto Natales, Chile

Puerto Natales appears at the end of the Ultima Esperanza Sound. An ideal point from which to cross the Andes, the town is in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park and the Andean scenery here is breathtaking.

Choose from two full-day optional excursions to discover more. Join a panoramic coach tour that brings you to Sarmiento and Norenskjold Lakesm as well as to the Salto Grande, a grand waterfall. Here you habe time to walk around and get a closer view for photos. Enjoy lunch at a hosteria in the park before a relaxing ride back to the ship.

Alternatively, choose to join a trekking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Leave your coach at Grey Lake to walk through forest and sandy terrai to reach Grey Beach. From here, observe iceflows in the distance. Continue trekking along the lake to get closer to the glacier. Enjoy lunch in the Serrano area. After, start heading back but along the way there are plenty of opportunities to take in the incredible landscape around you.

        Days 6-7

Cruising the Heart of the Chilean Channels

Spend two glorious days discovering the Chilean Channels at the foot of the Darwin Cordillera mountain range. Venture into the heart of the fjords to see the glaciers which tumble into the sea at the end of them. Sea lions, fur seals and dolphins are completely at home in the unspoiled grandiose nature of this region.

          Day 8

            Tortel, Chile

This small Patagonian village with its curious architecture – houses on stilts linked by a maze of piers, walkways and endless stairs which make up the roads – clings to a hillside in total isolation amidst the glaciers, lakes, forests and mountains. This is a unique opportunity to meet the locals who are always very welcoming to Le Boréal passengers.

            Day 9

              At Sea

As your ship sails northward, take some time to enjoy the changing scenery. Keep your eyes peeled for marine wildlife and birdlife that may be following in the ship's wake.

              Day 10

                Puerto Montt, Chile

Located on Latitude 40 degrees South, this lovely region is a natural garden and boasts an incredible concentration of volcanic cones, like Lanin or the spectacular snow-capped Orsono volcano.

Choose from a full-day or two half-day optional excursions when you call at this port. Make a day out it when you go to the Petrohue Waterfalls and Todos Los Santos Lake. First, take a motorboat cruise on the Lake, also known as Emerald Lake, and enjoy views of the surrounding forest and snow-capped peaks. From here, travel to the Petrohue Rapids by coach and take a nature walk to get a better look. Finally, stop at Puerto Varas for breathtaking views of Lake Llanquihue and Mount Osorno. A shorter, half-day excursion also takes you to the Petrohue Rapids, where you can enjoy the spectacle of the inky-green waters as they crash through lava channels formed after the eruption of the Osorno in 1850.

Alternatively, enjoy a pleasant half-day city tour of Puerto Montt, the Lake District capital, and nearby towns. A coach brings you through several scenic ares, providing stops to explore along the way.

                Day 11

                  Castro Chiloe, Chile

To the north of the Magellan Strait is a large island called Chiloe, which is very different from the rest of the country - not just because of the gentler countryside but because of its mixed cultural heritage. By virtue of being central, Castro is the capital of this island and is home to around 150 churches famous for their striking architecture. Indeed, 16 of them are registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Today, join an optional excursion to discover Castro and its remarkable churches by coach. Leave the pier, crossing the Gamboa River. Look out for the palafitos, wooden houses built on stilts that characterize the island. Continue to Vilupulli Church, a National Monument; then its on to Chonchi, the "three-story town" whose houses are arranged in steps on a hillside. Stop at the Museum of Traditions before returning to Castro and making a visit to the San Francisco Church and the city's main plaza. Make one final stop at the colorful craft market on your way back to the ship.

                  Day 12

                    At Sea

On your last day at sea, crack open that book, take advantage of onboard amenities, or rest up for the last stop on your adventure.

                    Day 13

                      Valparaiso, Chile

The port city of Valparaiso (meaning Paradise Valley), is one of the most beautiful and picturesque in the central region of Chile. Dominated by 44 hills forming a natural amphitheater overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaiso has been immortalized in the writings of Pablo Neruda. With its delightful funicular railways and colorful hillside dwellings, this is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and historic ports in South America.

You can join an optional excursion to the city and resort of Vina del Mar. Enjoy a panoramic drive along a coastal road to Renaca, stopping at popular sites and beaches. On your way back to Valparaiso, stop at La Sebastiana, the house and museum that once belonged to Chilean Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda. Make a final stop at a plaza for drinks and empanadas.

Alternatively, join an excursion that takes you into Casablanca Valley, where you can visit the Matetic Winery. Tour the grounds and facilities before enjoying a wine tasting while appreciating views of the beautiful valley and vineyards.

                      Day 14

                        Disembark in Valparaiso, Chile

Following breakfast onboard, disembark and transfer to airport for homeward flights.
