Syracuse was one of Sicily’s most prestigious cities and at the height of its splendor competed with Athens. Visiting Syracuse is like stepping back in time to plunge oneself into the fabulous history of Sicily. Since its role as a central city of ancient Greece, numerous civilizations have followed one another to these shores, each leaving their mark. Arabs, Romans, Normans, Byzantines and Spanish influences give Syracuse its extraordinarily rich culture, a mosaic of perfumes, colors and flavours.

Day 7 Taormina, Sicily, Italy

Taormina stands out against the slopes of Mount Tauro in the heart of a picturesque and charming location. The town’s alleyways and gardens tumble down the mountain to the Ionian Sea. Its ancient Greek theater is the second largest in Sicily, after the theater at Syracuse, and offers a magnificent panorama with the majestic Mount Etna, its lava flows still smoking, in the background.

Day 8 Amalfi, Italy

Since time immemorial, artists and travellers have fallen under the spell of these tiny villages lost amidst the orange and olive groves, the vineyards and bougainvillea. Amalfi and nearby Ravello, suspended between sea and sky, are the jewels of the Amalfi Coast. There is so much natural beauty to be admired here, including some magnificent gardens.

Day 9 Giglio, Italy

In the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea, 11km off the Argentario promontory, Giglio Island boasts many treasures to explore within its 21 sq km. Crystal clear water rich in marine life surround land that is still 90% uninhabited. With the exception of the Franco promontory, this mountainous island is almost exclusively granite. Perhaps the most significant feature is the 30 km of coast, alternating smooth granite with enchanting bays, deep rocky inlets and sandy beaches, and offering plenty of opportunities to bathe in tranquil waters.

Day 10 Viareggio, Italy

A pleasant seaside resort in Tuscany, Viareggio is our gateway to the architectural wonders and Gothic palaces of Pisa and Lucca. In the heart of Tuscany art lovers will not want to miss a visit to Florence. reclining in a natural hollow among gently rolling hills Florence has been the inspiration for many famous painters, sculptors and poets. No other italian city played such a dominant role in the renaissance Movement, and the elegant beauty of its buildings never fails to seduce.

Day 11 Nice, France

Disembark this morning for your continued journey home.

Restaurant and Bars:
Discreet yet attentive service, French Cuisine and reception in the 2 restaurants respect our best traditions. The Diamant Restaurant and the Panoramic Restaurant offer a high quality cuisine and can host 67 guests. Both are widely open to the sea. Of course tribute is paid to the great French gastronomic tradition, accompanied by a selection of red, white and rosé wines free of charge during meals. A fine wine list is also available to you. At lunchtime a delicious buffet is served on the terrace, while evening menus are more elaborate in the refined paneled décor of the Karukéra Restaurant where you dine at the table of your choice. Later in the bar, a pianist entertains guests.

Life Onboard:
Tasteful sophistication favouring life in the open air is our philosophy.Le Ponant has plenty of space including a large comfortable lounge, two restaurants one with a terrace, and a vast sun deck from which to admire the 1500 m² of sail. There is also a platform just above sea level from which you can gaze at the marine life below or enjoy the water sports. The public rooms are flexible and able to receive all the passengers at once for conferences, presentations, or work sessions. Enjoy meeting people in the Emeraude Lounge, relaxing in the Saphir Lounge, having a walk on the Sun Deck.
