Private Independent Travel

Board the M/V Anakonda for this fascinating 8-day itinerary on the Amazon river. Visit remote villages and sail through unique and fragile ecosystems on your luxurious small-ship voyage.

Day 1

Arrive in the city of Coca and transfer to the Río Napo port. Take a 90-minute motorized canoe downstream to board the M/V Anakonda. After boarding, attend a welcome orientation and begin your journey down the Amazon. Following dinner, enjoy an optional nocturnal forest walk to discover the mysteries of this unique environment.

    Day 2

      Black Water Lagoon

Continue down the Panayacu River delta. Stop for an exploratory canoe trip and experience the sights and sounds of this fascinating reserve. Seek out Pink River Dolphins and Common Squirrel Monkeys. Flooded by white waters, the rivers and lakes comprising the Pañacocha ecosystem provide the perfect habitat for Water Monkey Fish, White Caiman, and the infamous Piranha. Enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ meal and refreshing beverages at a nearby camping site. In the afternoon, disembark and hike the trails that circle the area.

      Day 3

White Water River and Yaku Kausay

Explore a white water river in search of local fauna. After lunch, stop at the Amazonian Water Museum (Yaku Kausay). After nightfall, take an optional walk in the dense forest (depending on accessibility, river water levels, weather conditions, and wildlife behavior).

        Day 4

          Pompeya and Napo River

In the morning, visit a butterfly house and research project at a nearby community. Enjoy lunch and an easy walk in the terra firme forest to discover the animated understory of the Amazon Basin. After dinner, take in this mysterious environment from a nocturnal perspective on an optional night walk.

          Day 5

            Yasuni National Park

In the morning, disembark to visit a local family's home. During the visit meet members of the Amazonian community. Learn about their culture, talents and ways of life. After lunch, continue your navigation towards one of the most pristine black-water systems of the Amazon Basin, home to legendary Pink River Dolphins, Black Cayman, and the enigmatic Amazonian Anaconda. Take a canoe trip upstream to further experience the striking beauty of this aquatic jungle world.

            Day 6

              Flooded Forest and Monkey Island

Explore a swamp forest from the comfort of a high-rise boardwalk, and hope to discover the wildlife which frequents these Morete Palm Forests. Visit a local home where funerary urns from the 17th century have been discovered and excavated. After lunch, spend some time exploring one of the large islands. For more adventurous guests, the opportunity to go Glamping is available. Please inquire for more information.

              Day 7

Kury Muyu & Parrot Clay Lick

Enjoy a cultural and ethnic encounter with the local residents. Spend some time at one of the forest communities to learn about their everyday lives. Take advantage of the opportunity to shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs. Head over to the Parrot Clay Licks, a great place to witness one of the most exciting wildlife spectacles in the Amazon. After lunch, explore a local jungle trail as you head to a unique water museum. Learn about many of the creatures that inhabit this lush environment. Weather permitting, paddle back downstream to Napo and enjoy some more wildlife watching opportunities.

                Day 8

In the morning, disembark the Anakonda and arrive back in Coca by canoe. Transfer to the airport for your connecting flights onward.
