Day 1 Fly Quito-Coca. Transfer downstream and embark on the Manatee Amazon Explorer

Depart from Quito in the morning at approximately 07:00 AM, and after a 30 minute flight we arrive at Francisco de Orellana (Coca). At the airport, we will have our naturalist guides meet us and take us on a short transfer to the Napo River port. Then wore will have a motorized canoe ride downstream for approximately one hour. During the trip we will provide important information about the region. Once on board the Manatee Amazon Explorer, we will have lunch and will start navigating down the Napo River. In the evening, there will be a welcome cocktail and a presentation about the trip, and an optional nocturnal tour by canoe or walk.

Day 2 Navigation down the Napo and Aguarico Rivers

On the second day of our cruise, we will explore one of the fantastic tributaries of the Napo River that comes from the core of the Yasuní National Park. We will navigate downstream in search of the wonderful wildlife, and if we are lucky enough, we could have the opportunity to see the evasive Giant River Otter, the mysterious Jaguar, and even the timid Spider Monkey. After this excursion, the Manatee will continue its navigation to arrive near the international boundary with Peru. We will visit the border town of Rocafuerte and continue to the junction of the Napo and Aguarico rivers (The most eastern point of Ecuadorian territory), and navigate upstream the Aguarico River, which is considered a rich river because miners wash gold on the shores close to the mountains?. In the afternoon, we will have our first walk in the varzea forest, which is wet half of the year. After a great excursion, diner will be served onboard and later, we will have a presentation about the program scheduled for next day.

Day 3 Canoe Lagartococha & Explore Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

Early in the morning, we will explore one of the most pristine rivers in Ecuadorian Amazonia, the Lagartococha River. Here we will have the opportunity to observe exotic plants, colorful birds and unique wildlife that lives in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. This black water system is the home of the legendary Pink River Dolphins, River Turtles, Black Caimans and the enigmatic Amazon Manatee. Moreover, if we look at the vegetation on the shores, we may see the Red Howler Monkeys, and other species like the black tamarind, squirrel monkey, Three-toed Sloth, the leaf-eating bird, locally known as Stinky Turkey (Hoatzin), and other wildlife. The canoe trip upstream will reveal the overwhelming beauty of this aquatic region. An overnight in the forest could be arranged for this day. This will be the farthest point of our trip and we will start our navigation back to the first point. Lunch will be served on board, and in the afternoon, we will explore the jungle on a short walk.

Day 4 Fly Quito / Return Home

Return to the city of Coca to take the morning flight back to Quito. The canoe ride upstream will take around two hours
