Day 1 Punta Arenas
Check in at 990 Magallanes St. between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Board cruise ship at 6:00 pm. After a welcome cocktail reception offered by the Captain and his crew, the ship will depart for one of the remotest parts of the earth. Your trip takes you through the Strait of Magellan and Beagle Channel to explore one of the most breathtaking wilderness regions in the world: Southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
Day 2 Aguila Glacier - Condor Glacier
At dawn find yourself sailing through the beautiful Agostini sound, right in the heart of Darwin Mountain Range. From this area it will be possible to appreciate various glaciers that come down to the sea from the upper icefield. Early in the morning, onboard Zodiac boats, motor to Aguila glacier where you will take an easy walk all the way to the base of the glacier. Experience the beauty of Patagonia’s cold rainforest and see how the power of nature molded the area’s landscape.
During the afternoon approach the impressive Condor Glacier, and get close to its front wall with your well-equiped Zodiac boats.
Day 3 Garibaldi Fjord - Pia Glacier - Glacier Alley
During the morning navigate the Ballenero channel to then enter and disembark at Garibaldi fjord. There hike through the forest up to a glacial waterfall and enjoy the spectacular views. For those who stay onboard, your Capitan will point the bow towards the beautiful blue Garibaldi glacier and the panoramic view can be enjoyed from the upper decks.
In the afternoon navigate along the Northwest arm of the Beagle channel to reach Pia fjord, where disembarking is scheduled. Take a short hike to a panoramic viewpoint from which you can appreciate the spectacular Pia glacier which extends from the mountaintops down to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, your sailing will continue along the Beagle channel through the majestic “Glacier Alley”.
Day 4 Ushuaia
Considered the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia was founded in 1884 and it was one of the first points of encounter between the Yamana and Anglican cultures. Its name comes from the Yamana word that means “penetrating bay” and it is surrounded by the last high peaks of the Andes. Nowadays it is one of the largest cities on Tierra del Fuego Island, with an approximate population of 65,000 inhabitants. Enjoy the city and its spectacular scenery!
Day 5 Cape Horn - Wulaia Bay
Today find yourself sailing through Murray channel and Nassau bay to reach Cape Horn National Park, where disembarking is scheduled, weather permitting. The mythical Cape Horn was discovered in 1616 and is a sheer 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory. For many years it was an important navigation route for sailboats between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and is known as the “End of the Earth”. The park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2005.
In the afternoon go ashore at historical Wulaia bay, originally the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana aboriginal settlements. Charles Darwin landed there in 1833 during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. This area is also renowned for the mesmerizing beauty of its vegetation and geography. Walk through a Magellan forest of lengas, coigües, canelos, ferns, and other endemic vegetation to reach a panoramic viewpoint.
Day 6 Chico Sound
Navigate through the intricate channels of the West coast of Tierra del Fuego. These channels are lonely, remote and thus unexplored, but very rich in natural history and beauty. In the afternoon, sail through Chico sound to board the Zodiac boats enter Alacalufe fjord. This place is where you will reach amazingly blue Piloto Glacier.
Day 7 Brookes Glacier - Ainsworth Bay
At dawn, navigate through Almirantazgo sound, arriving at Guerrero bay, opposite to Brookes glacier. The area is a natural amphitheatre shaped by glaciers in constant movement. Take a short walk towards one of the glaciers, enjoying the breathtaking surroundings and the view of the Darwin Mountain Range.
In the afternoon arrive at Ainsworth bay, within Alberto De Agostini National Park. From the distance see Marinelli Glacier descending from Darwin Mountain Range, and appreciate how the land comes back to life after glacial retreat. Take a walk to discover a beaver dam in the stunning sub-polar Magellan forest. Whether on the beach or the island, you might enjoy the view of Southern Elephant Seals, although sighting cannot be guaranteed due to colony’s unpredictable location.
Day 8 Magdelena Island - Punta Arenas
Early in the morning, weather permitting, go ashore on Magdalena Island, located in the middle of the Strait of Magellan. The island used to be an essential source of supplies for navigators and explorers and is inhabited by an immense colony of Magellan penguins that you will be able to see during your walk to the lighthouse. Finally, disembarkation at Punta Arenas is scheduled at 11:30 am.
