Day 1 Edinburgh, Scotland
Arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland. Make your way to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure. Gather at your hotel this evening for a welcome dinner and briefing.
Day 2 Edinburgh / Embark Odyssey
After breakfast a city tour highlights sights along the Royal Mile, including Holyrood Palace, once the home of Mary Queen of Scots, and stunning St. Giles Cathedral. At the top end of the street sits Edinburgh Castle and its magnificent gardens. Tour the castle and enjoy lunch before transferring to the port of Leith to embark the Odyssey.
Day 3 At Sea
As you transit the North Sea today take advantage of your shipboard time on this action-filled voyage to learn more about the dynamic countries rimming the Baltic Sea. Your team of lecturers prepares you for the exciting cultural and historical encounters ahead.
Day 4 Sylt Island, Germany
The beautiful, windswept, 24-mile-long island of Sylt (pronounced zoolt) is the northernmost point of Germany and part of the Frisian archipelago which stretches between Denmark and The Netherlands. Unique to the region is the architecture of the houses found in island villages, their thick reed roofs slope all the way down to the ground and blend with the surrounding vegetation. After lunch ashore go for an optional bicycle tour from the village of Kampen, join a birding tour, or enjoy free time to explore Westerland, the charming capital of Sylt.
Day 5 Kiel Canal Transit
Early this morning begin your transit of the historic 61-mile-long Kiel Canal and sail from the North Sea into the Baltic. Kaiser Wilhelm I set the first foundation stone in place on June 3, 1887. Nine thousand workers spent the next eight years constructing the canal from Brunsbuttel to Holtenau, where Kaiser Wilhelm II laid the final stone on June 21, 1895. Today the Kiel Canal is one of the busiest man-made waterways in the world.
Day 6 Bornholm Island, Denmark
After breakfast step ashore on serene Bornholm Island, endowed with sugar-white sand beaches, dramatic cliffs, thick forests, and heather-clad hills. Visit the ruins of Hammershus Castle, Scandinavia’s largest medieval fortress; the unique, round 12th-century churches, Osterlars and Nylars; and the charming half-timbered fishing hamlet of Gudhjem. Visit art studios renowned for their glass blowing and pottery.
Day 7 Gdansk, Poland
Today enjoy a full day tour of this nearly 1,000-year-old city. The Solidarity Monument is your first stop, commemorating the dramatic events of August 1980 when shipyard workers rioted against the Communist regime. Take a walking tour through lively Old Town with its magnificent collection of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings and monuments. Pass through the Golden Gate, walk down Long Street lined with buildings sporting elaborate facades and ornate gables, and end at the 15th-century Palace of Artus, where Neptune’s Fountain commemorates Gdansk’s Hanseatic past. Visit medieval St. Mary’s Church, the world’s largest brick church with 30 brilliantly decorated chapels. After lunch there is time at leisure for further exploration.
Day 8 Klaipeda, Lithuania
Your day begins with a drive to the amber center of Palanga. A stroll through the Botanical Park with its 500 varieties of trees and bushes, takes you to the Amber Museum, housed in a 19th-century neo-Renaissance-style mansion. Afterward drive to the Old Town for a walking tour. From beautiful Theatre Square explore the narrow streets that meander between the charming half-timbered houses and shops.
Day 9 Visby, Gotland Island, Sweden
This morning arrive at Gotland Island, the largest island in the Baltic. Its splendid city of Visby, a World Heritage Site, is famous for its intact medieval architecture, especially the 44 guard towers built as part of the city walls in the 11th and 12th centuries. Drive to Almedalen, a green oasis in the city center, then walk past lovely medieval granaries and the city’s oldest building, the Powder Tower. Visit the Botanical Garden, known for its exotic plant collection and take a ride up to a splendid panoramic viewpoint of the city and its spires. Continue your tour on foot along charming cobblestone streets, to visit the impressive St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Gotland Museum with its excellent medieval collections.
Day 10 Riga, Latvia
Your day in Latvia showcases the riches of this 800-year-old Hanseatic river port. A walking tour takes you to multiple landmarks, including the Blackheads House, one of the oldest buildings in Riga; St. Peter’s Church, a superb Gothic masterpiece; the 15th-century Three Brothers merchant houses; and St. Jacob and St. John churches. Also visit the 13th-century Dome Cathedral, whose organ concerts are legendary. Continue your exploration by motorcoach, driving past lovely parks along the City Canal lined with the stunning Art Nouveau architecture built in 1899 during the Jugendstil movement. There is free time this afternoon to explore Riga on your own.
Day 11 Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn is a visual feast of soaring spires, towers, and turrets—the legacies of its founders and rulers: the Danes, Swedes, Germans, and Russians. A renaissance in restoration and reconstruction has made Tallinn’s historic district one of the finest in the Baltic. During a walking tour of the Old Town visit Palace Square, bordered by the pink Baroque Toompea Castle and the magnificent Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Visit the oldest church in Estonia, the Gothic 13th-century Dome Church. Continue on to the Town Hall Square, step inside one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, founded in 1422; and stroll through the Latin Quarter, famous for its artisan workshops. After lunch visit Kadriorg Park and Palace, built by Peter the Great as a summer residence.
Days 12-13 St Petersburg, Russia
Arrive in splendid St. Petersburg in the early afternoon and enjoy two days of exploration. Highlights of your visit include St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Winter Palace which houses Catherine the Great’s incomparable Hermitage Museum. Enjoy an advanced entry and special guided tour which includes the Gold Room — a dazzling display of jewelry, as well as the famous Scythian and Greek gold. Drive across the Neva River to the burial place of the tsars, Peter and Paul Cathedral, its 18th-century spire dominates the skyline. Visit the spectacular Church of Resurrection, and drive along Russia’s most famous street, the Nevsky Prospect, lined with magnificent palaces, churches, and theaters. A scenic drive takes you to the magnificent palace and gardens of Peterhof, a grand summertime residence built by Peter the Great.
Day 14 Disembark Odyssey / Return Home
After breakfast disembark and transfer to the airport for your independent flight homeward.

One of the finest adventure ships afloat, the Odyssey is a 110-passenger luxury expedition vessel, ideally suited for cruising in off-the-beaten-path locales. On all Odyssey expeditions, guests have access to a fleet of Zodiacs, which allows remote landings anywhere nature or curiosity dictates.
All cabins on a Clipper Odyssey cruise have an ocean view, safe, minibar, individually controlled heat/air conditioner, in-room music system, and sitting area with sofa. Beds can be configured for twin or queen-size sleeping arrangements, and all cabins have an en suite bathroom complete with shower and small bathtub. In the comfort of their cabin, passengers can track the progress of their expedition on the Global Positioning System broadcast—a highlight of a Odyssey voyage for adventure-minded guests.
Additional facilities include a gourmet kitchen featuring American and international cuisine, dining room, lounge, small library and gym, outdoor pool, and gift shop. An elevator services all passenger cabin decks.
A fleet of Zodiac landing craft can be launched in minutes to take passengers ashore in places where no infrastructure exists. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communication equipment including telephone, fax, and email.
An outdoor swimming pool, dedicated jogging track, and two sun decks offer ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Inside, the spacious public areas of the ship include two lounges, a small library, and a single seating dining room.
An experienced cruise staff, physician, and onboard lecturers accompany all voyages to enhance the passengers’ enjoyment of the places visited.
All meals are prepared to order on board. The ship's chefs, graduates of the finest American culinary schools, combine the highest quality American ingredients with the influences and spices of the places the Odyssey visits. The resulting "fusion cuisine" provides a taste of the destinations visited.
