Included in the cost of this amazing polar voyage is a flight from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams where you’ll enjoy a tour of the port town before boarding Polar Pioneer. Upon finishing in Stanley, Falkland Islands, your transfer from ship to airport includes a tour of the capital, then a flight to Santiago or Punta Arenas. Explore the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula on this exciting 18-day polar voyage.

Day 1

    Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams / Embark

    Fly from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams (included in cruise fare). Enjoy a guided tour of the rustic port and beautiful surrounds. Embark Polar Pioneer in the late afternoon for introductory and safety briefings, then sail along the Beagle Channel.

    Days 2-3

      Drake Passage

      Drake Passage offers excellent birdwatching from the outer decks or the warm bridge. Expedition team presents Zodiac and environmental briefings, and enlightening talks on Antarctica. Keen eyes watch for icebergs, penguins, seals and cormorants as you approach your first landing in the South Shetland Islands.

      Days 4-6


        Awaken to the thrill of Antarctica, where your expedition team plans numerous visits to busy penguin rookeries, historic sites and to make a continental landing.

        Day 7

          Elephant Island

          Elephant Island, where Shackleton’s men wintered beneath their upturned boats. With luck go ashore to pay tribute to these hardy souls.

          Days 8-10

            Scotia Sea

            Following in Shackleton’s wake, cross the Scotia Sea, possibly detouring to visit the remote South Orkney Islands if ice conditions allow.

            Days 11-14

              South Georgia

              You will have ample time to explore South Georgia’s spectacular northern coast, including the world’s largest king penguin rookeries and majestic albatross nests. Kayakers revel in paddling the coastline’s nooks and crannies, accompanied by playful seals. In Stromness and Grytviken harbours, 3000-meter peaks form dramatic backdrops to the remains of whaling stations. Kelp-strewn beaches are cluttered with basking elephant seals, feisty fur seals and penguins.

              Days 15-17

                Scotia Sea

                Keeping watch for the kelp-skirted Shag Rocks, cross the Scotia Sea, entertained by your expert naturalist and historian.

                Day 18

                  Stanley, Falkland Islands / Return Home

                  Dawn greets you in the Falkland Islands capital, Stanley; where you will bid farewell to Polar Pioneer. You have the option of either spending more time exploring the Falkland Islands or continuing on via an included flight to either Punta Arenas or Santiago, Chile. From there begin your independent journey home.
