Yangon to Mandalay
Your Burma tour begins with a morning domestic flight from Yangon to Mandalay. On arrival, transfer to the Road To Mandalay berthed on the Ayeyarwady River at Shwe Kyet Yet and prepare for your upcoming river adventure. A delicious lunch is served on board on the top deck and in the restaurant.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the key sights of Mandalay, regarded as the center of Burmese culture and Buddhist learning. The tour will include a visit to Mahamuni Temple, one of the three holiest places in Myanmar. Before returning to the ship, admire sunset over the river at U Bein's Bridge, reported to be the longest teak bridge in the world.
Enjoy a cocktail on the top deck to meet The Road To Mandalay Officers and fellow passengers before your first dinner in the Restaurant. A Burmese tribal costume show will provide tonight's entertainment.
Sagaing & Ava
Sunrise yoga or meditation is followed by an early morning offering of alms at Shew Kyet Yet and breakfast on board. Disembark the The Road To Mandalay this morning to transfer by tender boats and travel by horse cart to the ancient city of Ava, which has served as capital of the Burmese kingdom for nearly 400 years.
Enjoy a BBQ picnic lunch under the shade of the Ko Ko trees on Lake Kandawgyi before continuing with a guided tour of Sagaing, with visits to a nunnery lead by an 80 year old nun, a local silversmith and Soon U Pon Nya Shin Pagoda. Return to The Road To Mandalay in time for sunset on Top Deck. A Myanmar wine presentation will take place prior to dinner on board, followed by an Acrobatic show on the Top Deck.
YanderboAfter breakfast, visit the small village of Yanderbo, noted for its clay pot production. Return to Road To Mandalay and set sail, arriving in Bagan mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided tour of several ancient pagodas before admiring the sunset over Dhamayazaka Temple. In the evening, enjoy a barbecue on the sandbank and a performance from a traditional local dance troupe.
BaganReturn to Bagan by boat to continue your fascinating tour, including a visit to a lacquer-ware factory. Lunch is served as Road To Mandalay continues her journey downriver. In the evening, enjoy dinner followed by a local puppet show in the Observation Lounge.
SalayEnjoy a morning tour of Salay after breakfast, admiring the rich history and colonial-era buildings, before returning to the ship for lunch as you resume sailing through the palm-fringed hills around Chauk. A delicious dinner is followed by an unmissable surprise on the river.
New Years Eve / Bagan / MandalayAfter breakfast, join a tour to the many small shops and factories of Pakokku. Return to Road To Mandalay and continue sailing north. As the sun sets, enjoy a fabulous New Year's Eve cocktail party on the deck followed by the chef's special feast in the restaurant. A live band and champagne countdown offer a magical introduction to the New Year.
AvaEarly risers can join a sunrise meditation or yoga session and, after breakfast, relax as the ship continues towards Mandalay. A leisurely New Year's brunch is served mid-morning on the top deck, after which you can enjoy a tour to the royal capital of Ava. Enjoy afternoon refreshments at the fort, followed by a special horse and cart tour. Return to the ship for your final night and exquisite farewell dinner.
