A finalized day-by-day itinerary is prevented from being published due to the expeditionary nature of this voyage, and flexibility is a must. View the following list of places we plan to visit. Some are pending final government approval.
Elsehul Bay - A lovely bay with thousands of fur seals. Search among the excellent sounds of marine mammals for the high pitched trumpeting of king penguins.
Right Whale Bay - Search for southern fur seals, elephant seals, king penguins, and other inhabited birds as you land on the volcanic black-sand beach.
Salisbury Plain - Be greeted by one of the more impressive sights - and sounds - on Earth while arriving to a breeding land for more than 200,000 king penguins. Two glaciers flank Salisbury Plain on South Georgia's north coast.
Hercules Bay - Keep watch for macaroni penguins, the most numerous of all penguin species, at this rocky bay.
Stromness Bay - This is the site of Shackleton's arrival after crossing the island's glaciers on foot. Enjoy views of cliffs and a glacier that the adventurer and his companions descended.
Grytviken - Step foot on Grytviken, a place that holds a special fascination, as this is where Shackleton is buried in the cemetery. Discover the ruins of this once active whaling station. Hike along the beach to see sea birds, penguins, and marine mammals.
Royal Bay - Ross Glacier forms a breathtaking backdrop to the rough scenery of 50,000 king penguins. See remains of the 1882 German transit of Venus expedition, as research was conducted at this large bay.
Gold Harbour - Often referred to as the "jewel in the island's crown", Gold Harbour is located at the foot of the Bertrab Glacier. See a large king penguin colony, gentoo penguins, elephant and fur seals, giant petrels, and, with luck, light-mantled albatross.
Cooper Bay - This bay features astonishing rock headlands with sharp cleavages of metamorphosed sandstone, presenting intriguing geological perspectives. It is likely here to come across light-mantled albatross, king, gentoo, and macaroni penguins, prions, petrels, and terns, and fur, Weddell, and elephant seals.
Peggotty Bluff - In 1916 a camp was established here by the party of Ernest Shackleton.
