Day 1: Embark in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland

Your Arctic expedition starts in the town of Kangerlussuaq, full of beautiful ice caps and colorful houses make is a special place.

In the afternoon, embark the Sea Spirit and sail out of the picturesque fjord.

Day 2-7: West Greenland and Disko Bay

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Whales, nature, and cultural exploration await you in this iceberg paradise for the next six days.

In Evighedsfjorden, "Fjord of Eternity," hike among majestic mountain peaks and enjoy an incredible 360 degree panorama of the land and the surrounding fjords.

Sisimiut is the second largest settlement in Greenland, appearing very modern but at the same time very traditional. It is located 40 km north of the Arctic Circle and is the southernmost settlement where there is enough snow for dog sledding in winter and spring. There are more dog sleds than humans in the town. The locals are very hospitable and colorful houses look friendly too.

Ilulissat means icebergs. Watch the marvelous gallery of icy sculptures up to 100 meters in height. Hear the inimitable symphony of the icebergs’ cracking and rumbling. Ilulissat, however, is much more than just icebergs. For nature lovers, hiking in the surrounding hills reveal some amazing views. Humpback whales are abundant in the nearby fjords. The local Inuit Art Museum contains a large collection of paintings by Greenland's probably best known painter, Emanuel A. Petersen. Over 100 paintings by Greenlandic, Faroese and Danish artists are exhibited here.

Embrace yourself for strong emotions as the ship approachs the beautiful Eqip Sermia Glacier. Here, plan to hike at Eqip Sermia and watch huge pieces of ice breaking off. The sounds are booming and the sight of the icebergs, crashing into the water, is breathtaking.

Then explore the picturesque Uummannaq Fjord and stop over at the same-name town. Uummannaq is translated as heart-like after the 1175 meter heart-shaped mountain that lies behind the town. According the myth when someone visits Uummannaq, a piece of their heart remains on the island forever, stirring the memories of visiting this enchanting place for life. Watch the locals’ everyday life as women sell handmade goods down at the harbor while behind them, men come and go on fishing boats heavy with the day’s catch on board.

Icebergs in Disko Bay come from the world’s fastest glacier Jakobshavn Glacier known also as Sermeq Kujalleq. It advances 40 meters daily and creates 46 cubic kilometers of icebergs annually. Here, there are excellent to spot bowhead whales; in spring these animals are still in Disko Bay before heading west.

At the volcanic Disko Island, hike around hot springs and columnar basalt rocks that show the island's volcanic history. Learn about special geology of the island. It looks that the Earth has cropped out here to the very core and access the “inners” of the planet. Then visit Qeqertarsuaq – the only settlement on the island – to explore the beautiful nature around the town and the colorful town itself.

Day 8: Disembark in Kangerlussuaq

  • 1 Breakfast
Your adventures finish at the port of Kangerlussuaq. Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your homeward bound flight.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
