Quepos, Costa Rica
Depart from Tortuga Island early today and sail to Quepos. Arrive this morning and transfer to the Manuel Antonio Reserve, one of the highlights of the cruise.
An optional excursion takes you to the Manuel Antonio park, which consists of three magnificent white-sand beaches set against a jungle sheltering hundreds of fascinating plant species. Join your naturalists on walks to outstanding wildlife viewing. There are over 109 mammal species and 184 species of birds here. Watch for monkeys, iguanas, agoutis, sloth, and the rare turquoise cotinga. Manuel Antonio offers well-maintained trails where you can explore the jungle on your own or join a walk with one of our naturalists. You may wish to see the small shopping area, relax on the white-sand beach or take a swim.
In the afternoon, choose from two optional excursions: float the Saverge River or take a forest canopy tour. Late this evening, sail for Puerto Jimenez on the Golfo Dulce. Overnight at sea.
Puerto Jimenz /Golfo Dolce - Casa Orquideas Private Reserve - Golfito , Costa Rica
Reach Puerto Jimenez early this morning. Join an optional excursion to the Osa Conservation Society by 4x4. Return to the ship for a late lunch while your ship crosses the Golfo Dulce towards Casa Orquideas, a beautiful private nature sanctuary where you can join an optional walking excursion to see the extensive and well-preserved grounds. Swim at the end of your visit before departing.
Sail into Golfito Bay in the Dolfo Dulce to arrive at midnight. Immigration and ship clearance procedures take place before your ship continues sailing to Coiba Island, Panama. Overnight at sea.
Coiba Island & Granito de Oro, Panama
Arrival in Coiba this morning. Take an optional walking exploration of Coiba island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest island in Central America. Join the on board naturalist on a short walk on the hill to discover local forest and animal life. Adjacent waters are teeming with marine life as the island is surrounded by one of the largest coral reefs on the Pacific Coast of the Americas. Coiba also marks the beginning of the underwater Cordilera mountain chain that also includes Coco's and the Galapagos Islands. This makes for a unique underwater experience you shouldn't miss.
In the afternoon, leave Granito de Oro and sail to Panama city. Overnight at sea.
Panama Canal Crossing
Arrival in the morning in Flamenco Marina/Amador, Panama City. This morning there is an optional excursion to the Old Town quarters of Panama City and to the historic Canal site (Mirafloers Locks and Museum). Lunch on board before preparing for the Canal crossing.
At 2 PM the ship's crew begins preparations for a 5 PM crossing of the Panama Canal. Cross the Miraflores and the San Pedro Locks before reaching the Gatun locks on the Atlantic side. Cross the Gatun Locks in the early hours and after clearance continue on to San Blas Islands. Overnight at sea.
San Blas Islands/ Carti & Gran Perro Islands, PanamaEarly this morning arrive at the San Blas Archipelago, a chain of over 365 tropical islands of which 50 only are inhabited. Local residents are Kuna Indians, who live in communities of bamboo-sided, thatched-roofed houses. The Kuna Indians are one of a few indigenous groups that make up Panama's population. The area is owned and administered exclusively by the Kuna, who run it as an autonomous republic. Your ship anchors at Carti Island for an optional excursion to visit the largest Kuna Indian settlement. Children dance for passengers and you have the opportunity to visit a local home. From here, sail to nearby Gran Perro Island (Big Dog Island) to enjoy a BBQ on the island and enjoy time at leisure to swim and snorkel here or at nearby Perro Island, home to a famous shipwreck. Late this evening, your ship departs for Colon Shelter Marina. Overnight at sea.
