Embark your ship this afternoon. Sail to the canal entrance area, cross the Gatun Locks, and enter the Gatun Lake. Later during the night cross the San Pedro and Miraflores locks and reach Flamenco Marina, Panama City in the early hours.
Join an optional excursion to Casco Viejo, Panama City's old Colonial Quarter, and to the Panama Canal site (Miraflores Locks and Museum). Enjoy time at leisure after lunch to visit the Amador Marina or go to town for shopping. In the late evening sail to Punta Patino – Darrien.
Arrive in Punta Patino-San Miguel Gulf and join an optional excursion to Punta Patino in the Darrien National Park and to the Mogue Embera Reserve. Sail upstream on the Mogue river in dugout canoes and reach the Village of Mogue after passing through a mangrove ecosystem. Meet Embera Indians, one of the 7 indigenous groups living in Panama. They are proud and very friendly and known for their beautiful handicrafts and well-preserved traditions. Share their lunch and dance with them. Sail to Coiba Island this afternoon.
Day 4: Coiba Island | Granito De Oro Island, Panama
Arrive on Coiba Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest island in Central America. Your ship's Naturalist offers an optional walking excursion this morning, taking you on a short, uphill walk to discover the local forest and animal life. Enjoy a beach BBQ before sailing to nearby Granito de Oro Island for swimming and snorkeling in a pristine environment. The waters are teeming with marine life. The island is surrounded by one of the largest coral reefs in the Americas' Pacific coast and marks the beginning of the underwater Cordilera mountain chain which encompasses Coco's and the Galapagos. This region offers a unique underwater experience not to be missed. In the afternoon, leave Granito de Oro and sail to Golfo Dulce.
Day 5: Golfito | Casa Orquideas Private Reserve | Puerto Jimenez | Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica
Reach Golfito early in the morning for immigration procedures before continuing sailing on to nearby Casa Orquideas where the ship anchors. Reach Casa Orquideas and tender to this beautiful flower sanctuary. Opt to join an optional walking excursion and visit to the extensive and very well-preserved grounds. There is time to swim at the end of the visit. Next sail across the bay to Puerto Jimenez while having a deck BBQ, and visit the Osa Peninsula Reserve. The park is part of one of the biological corridors leading to the Corcovado National Park, and offers the opportunity for a smooth walk in secondary forest and interaction with endemic animal life. Return to the ship for dinner and overnight at sea en route to Quepos.
This morning, arrive in Quepos and transfer to the Manuel Antonio Reserve. Your optional excursion takes you into the Manuel Antonio Park which consists of three magnificent white-sand beaches, backed by a jungle that shelters hundreds of fascinating plant species. Manuel Antonio offers well-maintained trails where you can explore the jungle on your own or join a walk with a naturalist to look for outstanding wildlife viewing. You may wish to see the small shopping area, relax on the white-sand beach, or take a swim. Choose from two optional afternoon excursions: Savegre River or take a Forest Canopy Tour. Enjoy a tropical evening with dinner and a party.
Join an optional walking excursion with local Rangers in the Curu Nature Reserve. Later, rejoin your ship for a short sailing to Tortuga Island, arriving at noon for swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of this paradise island. Join your shipmates on the beach for a BBQ. Spend the afternoon exploring more of this amazing island. Overnight at anchor in Tortuga or sail to Puntarenas depending on sea conditions.
Day 8: Puntarenas Port, Costa Rica

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
