Board your cruise in Lyon. Tonight, meet your fellow passengers as the ship moors overnight.

Discover dynamic Lyon, starting in Fourvière Hill, part of the city’s historic region that is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the 19th-century basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Continue on to the old town of Lyon, followed by a guided walk through the St. Jean district, and be introduced to the city’s unique covered walkways, known as “traboules.” During the afternoon, enjoy leisure time or join a guided bike tour through the city designed with cyclists in mind. 
 
Wine-themed Cruise: 
Today your panoramic tour of Lyon takes you to Place Bellecour with its equestrian statue of Louis XIV, Place des Terreaux with Bartholdi’s Fountain, and the Town Hall. Afterwards, visit Fourvière, part of the historic region designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the “Hill of Prayers,” Fourvière is famous for its iconic white Basilica of Notre-Dame, ruins of an ancient Roman theater, and majestic views of the city below.The afternoon is free to enjoy however you wish. The ship departs for Belleville this evening.

Day 3 Collonges | Vienne, France

Travel to the Beaujolais wine region—known as the Pays d’Or or “land of the golden stones." Indulge in a wine tasting at a traditional winery and learn about the history and techniques of their vineyard. Later set sail for Vienne, and enjoy free time to explore the town.

Wine-themed Cruise: 
This morning’s tour takes you through the enchanting Beaujolais wine region, also known as the Pays d’Or or “land of the golden stones,” named for the richly colored limestone used to build local homes and castles. Visit the medieval hilltop village of Oingt as well as the home of a local vintner for a wine tasting and vineyard tour as he shares the history of the region’s wine production. Return to the ship in the afternoon and enjoy a wine lecture and tasting onboard as you continue cruising towards Vienne. Upon arrival, make the most of your free time and venture about on your own or simply unwind on board.

Day 4 Vienne | Tournon, France

Situated between the wine regions of Burgundy and Beaujolais, Vienne’s Roman past can be seen in its marvelously preserved ruins. This morning, choose from one of three options to explore Vienne. Your first option is to take a walking tour and see an ancient Roman temple, the ruins of a Roman theater, and the medieval Abbey Church of St. Pierre, today an Archaeological Museum. Your second option is a guided bike tour along a portion of the ViaRhôna bike route. Your third option is a guided hike from the ship up to the Monastery at Mount Pipet and back. Your ship departs at midday for Tournon.

Wine-themed Cruise: 
Situated between the wine regions of Burgundy and Beaujolais, Vienne’s Roman past can be seen in its marvelously preserved ruins. This morning, take a walking tour and see an ancient Roman temple, the ruins of a Roman theater, and the medieval Abbey Church of St. Pierre, today an Archaeological Museum. Return to the ship and enjoy an onboard lecture and wine tasting as you sails towards Tournon. This evening, enjoy a “Red Wine & Chocolate Pairing” at the Tournon Chateau.

Day 5 Tournon, France

Wine and chocolate lovers can enjoy visiting Tournon located in the heart of Côtes du Rhône. You have a choice of three excursions. Take a train ride past magnificent landscape carved along the Gorge du Doux stopping at the charming little station of Colombier le Vieux-Saint Barthélemy le Plain, where the train maneuvers in preparation for its return journey. Alternatively, lovers of wine and chocolate can visit Le Château de Tournon for a presentation and tasting on the pairing of red wine and chocolate. For a more active adventure, take a hike through the vineyards of Tain l’Hermitage, followed by a visit to a local winery where you can sample some of the wines. 

Wine-themed Cruise:
This morning, enjoy a scenic drive to the Tain-l’Hermitage region for a wine tasting. Later, enjoy an on-board wine lecture and tasting this afternoon as you cruise to Viviers. After arriving this evening, you may take a “Ghost Walk” tour through this medieval town, where colorful stories and local legends are brought to life by local residents.

Day 6 Avignon, France

Avignon, aptly named the “City of Popes,” was the center of the Catholic Church in the 14th century when its “Palais des Papes” was the equivalent of today’s Vatican. Depending on your interests, you have three options of excursions. Discover the history of Avignon on a guided walking tour that includes the Papal Palace and the well-preserved medieval walls surrounding the historic center of town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alternatively, you can go to another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the impressive Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that is a masterpiece of ancient engineering. Or if you prefer, learn the art of Provençale cooking by joining a local chef as he shares his insight with you, and afterwards, taste the fruits of your labor. During the afternoon, you can enjoy free time in Avignon; go on a bike tour; or go to the magnificent hilltop village, Grignan. After visiting this enchanting Provencal town, go in search of the highly prized “Black Diamond,” truffles, with a farmer and his trustworthy canine companion. 

Wine-themed Cruise:
Today arrive in Avignon, site of the bridge made famous by the French children's song "On the Bridge of Avignon." Seven popes once resided in the magnificent Papal Palace, which you can visit during your walking tour. You can also see the well-preserved medieval walls surrounding the historic center of town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, visit the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape region where you can enjoy a wine tasting, tour a local vineyard, and learn about the wines and winemaking process.

Day 7 Avignon | Arles, France

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in France, Arles enchants. For art lovers, visit Saint Paul de Mausole Asylum, where Vincent van Gogh once lived and painted such well-known works as “The Irises” and “Starry Night.” Many people consider Van Gogh’s Arles period to be the most creative of his career. Afterwards, go to the Carrières de Lumières, and be treated to a spectacular presentation of art, sound, and history projected on the walls of caves. Alternatively, venture to the medieval hilltop village, Les Baux de Provence, followed by a visit to an olive farm where you learn about age-old Provençal traditions from a master olive miller as well as sample the olive oil. During the afternoon, you can join a walking tour of Arles highlighting top sites, including the Romanesque cathedral and Roman amphitheater, or take a guided bike tour to the Roman ruins. For those who wish to delve further into Van Gogh’s Arles, join a special walking tour along with a visit to the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, showcasing his legacy. 

Wine-themed Cruise:
After arriving Arles this morning, board a motor coach for an excursion to the village of Les Baux de Provence. The village’s castle has a fascinating exhibit of medieval weapons. Later, visit an olive farm to learn about this age-old Provençal farming tradition. As an alternative, take the "Artist Experience” tour to the Saint Paul de Mausole Asylum, where Van Gogh once lived and painted such well-known works as The Irises and Starry Night. Visit the Carrières de Lumières, a stone quarry that projects artwork on its walls. Late this afternoon, a city tour of Arles shows you the city’s top sights including the Romanesque cathedral and Roman amphitheater. The ship moors overnight in Arles.
