Follow the route of emperors and kings on a “Magnificent” European small ship journey along three great rivers through five fascinating countries! Begin in Amsterdam, then cruise on the Rhine to Cologne, a historic university town with a breathtaking Cathedral. Cruise through the beautiful Rhine Gorge and then onto the Main River. Marvel at the Main-Danube Canal – an engineering masterpiece – as you traverse Europe’s Continental Divide from the comfort of your small ship. Discover the culture and traditions of such grand old capitals as Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. Along the way, you’ll see perfectly preserved medieval towns and Europe’s loveliest countryside, filled with ancient abbeys and fairytale castles.

Day 1

Arrive Amsterdam, Netherlands / Embark

Arrive in charming Amsterdam and embark your luxurious river cruise ship. Meet your fellow travelers tonight at the Welcome Cocktail Reception.

Day 2

Amsterdam, Netherlands

After breakfast, admire the city’s beautiful centuries-old homes and picturesque churches on a guided canal boat tour. Then enjoy a panoramic city tour of Amsterdam, including a photo stop at a windmill once painted by Rembrandt, followed by free time to explore on your own. The ship departs early afternoon and cruises overnight.

Day 3

Cologne/ Koblenz, Germany

Cruise past fashionable Düsseldorf before arriving in Cologne for a guided morning walking tour through the old part of the city and a visit to the fabled 13th-century Gothic cathedral. At lunchtime, continue to 2,000-year-old Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Mosel rivers. Take an after-dinner walk through this charming town with your Cruise Manager. The ship moors in Koblenz overnight.

Day 4

Rüdesheim, Germany

Today sail through the beautiful Rhine Gorge, passing castle after castle and the infamous Lorelei Rock. After lunch, arrive in Rüdesheim and visit Siegfried's Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum by mini train. Explore the Drosselgasse, a narrow alley lined with wine taverns and restaurants during your free time before the ships sails late this afternoon for Miltenberg.

Day 5

Miltenberg / Wertheim, Germany

Arrive in Miltenberg and disembark for a morning walking tour of this delightful old Franconian town. Take in its narrow cobblestone streets and gabled, half-timbered houses before returning to the ship for lunch and to continue cruising to charming Freudenberg. From here, a motor coach takes you to Wertheim, where you can take a walking tour of the city center and enjoy leisurely browsing time in the market square before boarding your ship for an overnight cruise to Würzburg.

Day 6

Wurzberg, Germany / Kitzingen

This morning, take a guided tour of Würzburg showing you all of the major sights or visit the Residenz Palace and gardens, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s best examples of Baroque architecture. This afternoon, take an optional excursion along the Romantic Road to medieval Rothenburg. The ship arrives this evening in Kitzingen, where you may enjoy an evening walk and wine tasting at Germany’s oldest wine cellar. Late tonight the ship departs for Bamberg.

Day 7

Bamberg, Germany

Arrive this afternoon in enchanting Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Disembark for a guided walking tour of this medieval gem and see the breathtaking cathedral, the Old Town Hall that straddles the river, the city’s serpentine streets, and elegant 18th-century mansions. Sample some of Bamberg’s famous smoked beer before continuing your cruise this evening to Nuremberg.

Day 8

Nuremberg, Germany

This morning take a "Medieval Nuremberg" tour and see the city’s 900-year-old ramparts, towers, old city walls and the Imperial Castle. Or join the WWII tour that visits the Zeppelin field and the Justice Palace courtroom (when available) where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946. After lunch, the ship passes through the Main-Danube Canal and across Europe’s Continental Divide. Your ship continues cruising overnight.

Day 9

Regensburg, Germany

A guided morning tour shows you the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Praetoria, gates to a Roman fort built in 179 AD. Alternatively, visit the Audi Factory in Ingolstadt, where a member of the Audi team takes you on a guided tour of the Audi Car Museum or Factory Floor (subject to availability). The ship departs this evening for Austria.

Day 10

Passau, Germany / Salzburg-Linz, Austria

After breakfast, arrive in picturesque Passau for a walking tour. This 2,000-year-old city is noted for its Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture. As you walk the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, take in the old city fortifications and St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to the largest pipe organ in the world. Alternatively, join an excursion to Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the setting for “The Sound of Music.” Those staying on board can enjoy a scenic journey to Linz, Austria. Arrive in Linz this evening and depart around midnight.

Day 11

Melk / Dürnstein, Austria

Cruise through the narrow Strudengau and reach the Wachau Valley early this morning. A guided tour takes you to Melk’s magnificent Benedictine Abbey, one of Europe’s largest Baroque monasteries. After lunch, enjoy a scenic cruise through the lovely Wachau Valley and arrive in Dürnstein mid-afternoon. There, see the blue facade of the Baroque Stiftskirche and the castle ruins where Richard the Lionhearted was once imprisoned, high above the town. Also enjoy a wine tasting of several different wines. The ship moors in Dürnstein until the early hours of the morning.

Day 12

Vienna, Austria

The ship docks in Vienna this morning. Savor the sights of romantic Vienna during your guided tour today, which includes such destinations as the Opera House, the Ringstrasse, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. As an alternative, join an optional excursion to the Imperial Schönbrunn Palace. Tonight, explore the vibrant Austrian capital on your own or join an optional Mozart and Strauss concert. The ship moors overnight.

Day 13

Vienna / Bratislava, Slovakia

Enjoy a morning of scenic cruising to Bratislava, arriving early afternoon. You have a choice of two tours, a "Communist History" tour or a walking tour of the city’s major sights, including the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and St. Martin’s Cathedral. The rest of the afternoon is free to shop or explore on your own. Tonight there is an evening music performance aboard the ship. The ship departs late tonight for Budapest.

Day 14

Budapest, Hungary

This morning, your sightseeing tour takes you to historic Buda Castle where you can enjoy a splendid view of the twin cities of Buda and Pest. Your tour also includes the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Royal Palace and St. Stephen’s Basilica. Tonight, enjoy a Farewell Dinner before the ship sails a special "Illuminations Cruise" past the city’s stunning riverfront. The ship moors overnight in Budapest.
