Join the Sea Endurance on an expedition cruise to Northeast Greenland – one of the world’s last unspoiled wildernesses. The grandiose landscape is dominated by glaciers and beautifully shaped icebergs. Most of the year this ice-choked coast is inaccessible and it is only in late summer, when the tundra is clad in autumn colos, that we have a chance to get here. The expedition starts in magical Svalbard and ends in the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland.
Highlights
Sail along beautiful fjords and keep an eye out for Arctic wildlife
Enjoy lectures on Arctic flora, fauna, geology, and history from the guides
Visit Blomsterbugten, “the bay of flowers” to find purple & gold rocks
Discover Ella ø, a hiker’s paradise surrounded by ice-choked waters
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Visit some of the many magnificent fjords in western Svalbard, where vast glaciers tumble down into the sea. Sail along the beautiful fjords and keep an eye out for the Arctic wildlife that inhabits the area.
Shape a southwesterly course and from the decks, keep a constant lookout for whales which may be encountered in these waters. The knowledgeable guides entertain you with lectures on the Arctic flora, fauna, geology and history. During parts of the crossing expect to meet the pack ice border, which often embraces Greenland’s northern coast. Few things in life are as exciting as standing on board a ship cruising past large floes of pack ice!
Reach the shores of Greenland and arrive in a part of the world that is totally dependent on ice and weather conditions. The ambition is to make landings or cruises every day with your Zodiacs. The following are some of the places you may visit:
Clavering Island, Greenland
Clavering Island is a hunter’s hut, which reveals a bit about the life of a hunter and trapper in these high latitudes. On the tundra hope to see some of the many musk ox, which inhabit these shores. Northeast Greenland is one of very few places in the world where you have the chance to encounter these huge, woolly herbivores, weighing up to 400 kilos.
Kaiser Franz Josefs Fjord & Kong Oscars Fjord, Greenland
Explore and make several landings in these beautiful fjord systems, which are framed by mountains shooting vertically out of the sea. This area is unspoiled and virtually uninhabited with a population of less than 40 people, consisting mainly of scientists and personnel from the Danish Sirius Patrol in Daneborg located further up north. Examples of places you may visit are Blomsterbugten and Ella ø. In Blomsterbugten, “the bay of flowers”, find beautiful purple and gold-colored rocks. Ella ø is a hiker’s paradise surrounded by ice-choked waters, rugged cliffs, and blue icebergs.
Scoresbysund, Greenland
Scoresbysund – the world’s largest fjord system – has some of the most spectacular scenery Greenland has to offer: jagged peaks as tall as 2000 meters coming straight out of the sea and rare glimpses of the Greenland ice cap, the largest ice cap in the northern hemisphere. As you reach Scoresbysund enjoy the breathtaking view of this immense fjord. Here enjoy the chances of seeing remnants from the Thule people, who arrived to Greenland in the 12th century. In the small village of Ittoqqortoormiit, with only 500 inhabitants, learn more about life in this isolated place 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
Day 11: Constable Point, Greenland | Reykjavik, Iceland
In the morning disembark Sea Endurance, which has been your home for the past 10 nights. Leave the wilderness of Greenland behind as you board the chartered flight that takes you to Iceland and Reykjavik, where you check into a comfortable hotel.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
