Birding

Unquestionably Belize’s Finest Birding Location

For the avid birder there is nothing in Belize that even comes close! Privately situated on the banks of a 28 mile long spring fed lagoon, amid major Maya ruins and an unequalled range of avifauna rich habitats, Lamanai Outpost Lodge is the obvious choice for your High-Count Belize birding expedition.

  • Almost 400 species have been recorded within a 3 mile radius of the lodge in a variety of readily accessible habitats that include vast Wetlands, Broadleaf Forest, Pine Savannah, Scrub and Riverine systems
  • It is not uncommon to achieve a highly diverse 200+ species count over a 3 day expedition.
  • Privately situated over 70 road miles from the nearest hotel or lodge, this pristine birding location is undisturbed by the large numbers of people and tour buses that can be encountered elsewhere.
  • At the Outpost no day trips are required and no time is wasted transiting to your next birding location as all of the surrounding habitats can be accessed in minutes. The average birder undertakes two to three specialized and fully guided birding expeditions per day. In addition you may elect to join any of our Natural History tours or expeditions; see the activities page for a listing and departure schedule.
  • Our guides are highly experienced, they share your passion for birding and you will find them totally focused on expanding life list and determined to go that extra mile as you seek out that special bird that you have been waiting so long to encounter.
  • Our guides carry Swarovski spotting scopes along with a spare pair of binoculars should the need arise; our gift shop also stocks camera film along with water/fog proof binoculars.
  • Motorized birding safaris across the Pine Savannah and onto the Crooked Tree Nature Reserve will be available in early 2005. Crooked Tree is approximately six nautical miles from the eastern shore of the New River Lagoon.
