Adventure Spa Base Camp

Private tent at the Adventure Spa Base Camp

Located on 10 acres of riverfront property, the Adventure Spa Base Camp is an eco-friendly wilderness camp designed to include a combination of enjoyable activities, facilities and creature comforts. The camp's location along the wild and beautiful Futaleufu River provides access for fishing and swimming.

Guests will enjoy private roofed tent platforms with walk-in tents including chairs, coffee table, mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Complimentary coffee or tea is provided each morning. An adjacent farm provides fresh vegetables and fresh-baked bread.

Adventure Spa Base Camp also features candlelight dinners in the Galpon - an open-air log structure hand-built by the renowned Chilean carpenter Rolando - as well as an open sunset bar with unlimited drinks and dancing, a library for reading and napping, a hand-crafted river rock hot tub, sauna, and professional masseuse.

Optional Adventure Camp Activities:

Handcrafted river rock spa

Activites at the camp include fishing from catarafts, horseshoes, volleyball, kayaking, mountain biking, and daily yoga classes.

Rafting and Kayaking
The river is what draws most people to the Futaleufu Valley. It goes without saying that this is one of the best rivers in the world! Continuous, big whitewater with rapids rated Class III to Class V.

Fly Fishing
The camp is located at the end of a long, narrow, tranquil canyon which hosts some of the best fishing opportunities imaginable. Gear for fly fishing and spinning will be provided, as well as specially designed catarafts with tractors seat off the front, which are perfect for casting. The boat can put into any eddy!

Mountain Biking
There are 12 mountain bikes at the camp. Two full suspension KHS and 10 front suspension Treks. Ride from camp in any direction for some of the best vistas and riding found anywhere!

Horseback Riding
Not far from camp, our Chilean neighbors have a full stable of well-cared for and well-trained horses available for our use. Horseback riding trips into the Patagonian countryside can be arranged at any time. Travelers can ride for an hour or spend the entire day on one of our many special trails. One such trail follows the river Azul towards a towering glacier and our Cascada camp. There are plenty of new sheepskin-covered saddles and gear for your comfort and safety.

Gourmet Dining
Open air camp dining

All meals are prepared and enjoyed under the "Galpon." This is the log roof deck with open sides and is the main meeting area of the camp. Meal times are always festive occasions at the camp. Guests are welcome to join in and help in meal preparation. The tasty Chilean red wine is always flowing and travelers gather around our hand-made wood table to enjoy the meals by candlelight.

Gourmet-quality meals include goose, lasagna made in the Dutch oven, fajitas, cashew stir fry chicken, fresh salads and homemade desserts every night. Vegetarians will love the abundance of fresh vegetables that are harvested daily from the garden. In front of the dining area is the cozy campfire, surrounded by benches, where travelers can relax and enjoy hot tea or coffee.

Cultural Exchange

The camp shares its land with a wonderful Chilean family, the Diocares. The camp in located within a 5 minute walk from a true, working Chilean homestead. The warm, friendly family has an open invitation for all of the guests to visit them and share in their rustic kitchen. Travelers can enjoy a tour of their handmade tools and abundant greenhouse (where the camp receives all of their delicious fresh produce). The family loves guests to come visit their home and take in some of the local flavor. This family has a vegetable garden and every meal includes fresh produce from the garden. They also make the camp fresh bead everyday so travelers can always look forward to warm fresh bread everyday morning!
