Day 1: Piraeus, Greece | Embark

A ship will come...", declared the singer Melina Mercouri to the port of Piraeus. Later, as Greek Minister for Culture, she made Athens the first European Capital of Culture in 1985. The city is considered the birthplace of Europe, of philosophy, and of democracy, and is the embodiment of the Olympic ideal. World famous and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, its landmark is the magnificent Parthenon temple, lying high up on the Acropolis in all its glory. At the foot of the Acropolis hill is the Plaka, the oldest quarter of Athens, and the world's most modern archaeological museum, the new Acropolis Museum, has been here since 2009. Board the Sea Cloud and attend dinner as the ship sets sail.

Day 2: At Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Enjoy this day offshore, relaxing and taking in the smell of the fresh ocean breeze up on deck.

Day 3: Vathy/Ithaki, Ithaca

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Visit Ithaca, a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea, off the northeast coast of Kefalonia and to the west of continental Greece. Ithaca's main island has an area of 96 square kilometers (37 sq mi) and 3,229 inhabitants. It is the second-smallest of seven main Ionian Islands, after Paxi. Ithaka's capital is Vathy or Ithaki.

Day 4: Saranda, Albania

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Close to the small seaport of Sarande, amidst a national park, lies Butrint, one of Albania's greatest attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This city became a spa and festival town in the ancient world as early as 2,500 years ago, and every era in Greek, Roman, and Byzantine history has left behind evidence in stone. Discover the spectacular Lion Gate from the 4th century BC. Four fifths of this archaeological site still remain to be uncovered.

Day 5: Kerkyra/Corfu, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Greeks, Romans, Venetians and Ottomans were former rulers of the island, which rivalled the trading powers of Venice and Dubrovnik in its medieval heyday. The rich cultural heritage of the picturesque old town of Kerkyra is protected by UNESCO. Island life unfolds against a seemingly aristocratic backdrop. At the end of the 19th century, when Corfu was a Mediterranean destination where the aristocracy and moneyed classes longed to go, the Empress "Sisi" of Austria also discovered the island. She had an old Venetian villa renovated for herself and this became her Achilleion - named after her favorite hero, the legendary Greek Achilles.

Day 6: At Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Enjoy the ship's luxurious amenities as it sails to Taormina.

Day 7: Giardini Naxos, Taormina

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Taormina is perched on a rock with a majestic view over the sea. In the 19th century, this small town had already developed into a dream destination for well-heeled travelers and artists. The town's fascination lies in its elegance, the many ancient buildings, the stunningly beautiful coastline, the mild climate, and the view over the silhouette of Etna. Europe's largest volcano is over 3,000 meters (9,843 foot) high, has four summit craters and around 400 subsidiary craters, and is covered with snow almost all year round. In ancient times it was considered the seat of the gods, but nowadays large sections of it are a nature reserve.

Day 8: Lipari, Aeolian Islands, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Lipari is a tranquil little spot and the largest of the Aeolian Islands, with a cultural heritage stretching back over 6,000 years. Right from first glance you can see its volcanic heritage, with some of the rock formations resembling sculptures, and the entire group of islands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Aeolian Museum is set on the castle hill and holds an impressive collection of prehistoric and ancient artifacts from this volcanic group of islands. You may find the southern Italian way of life in this little port infectious.

Day 9: Amalfi, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The beautifully curving Amalfi Coast, which meanders along the starkly protruding Sorrento peninsula, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the pretty little town of Amalfi, whose history as an influential maritime republic is still clear to see, a dense labyrinth of pastel-colored houses clings to the rocky coastline. Boasting three naves, the beautiful 10th-century cathedral with an enchanting cloister, colorful marble façade, Arabic-Norman campanile, and magnificent steps leading to the lively Piazza Duomo is the heart of this small coastal town.

Day 10: Capri, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Even at the time of the Roman Empire, Capri was a particularly precious natural gem and became the summer residence of the Emperor Tiberius. Artists and hedonists, aristocrats and the moneyed classes discovered the island for themselves in the 19th century. This stunningly beautiful rocky island in the Gulf of Naples is famous for its numerous grottos, the most well known being the Blue Grotto. You can expect a combination of pleasure and spectacle when you experience the colorful lifestyle and goings-on in the Piazetta right in the center of Capri.

Day 11: Civitavecchia/Rome, Italy | Disembark

  • 1 Breakfast
Arrive at Rome and disembark after breakfast for your continued independent journeys.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
