Rovinj is a popular tourist resort in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea. It is located on the western coast of the Istrian Peninsula and remains as one of the last true fishing ports.
Optional Activities:
Rovinj – Istria Truffle Story: Few areas of the world afford a real search for the "culinary gold" known as truffles, and most truffle farmers are extremely cautious of "trespassers" in order to protect their valuable crop. Leave Rovinj by bus toward the Istria Peninsula Hinterland to the village of Paladini and meet with the Karlić family (a grandfather, mother, grandchildren, and dogs) at their farm. The truffle business of the Karlić family (from Paladini near Buzet) was established in 1966 by Mr. Ivan Rašpolić. Both white and black truffles found in that area were considered to be among the best quality truffles in Istria. However, one of the richest truffle fields now lies at the bottom of Butoniga Lake! At the farm, the Karlić family gives an introduction to the truffles, the history of truffles in Istra, and their family. Taste some delicious truffle products prepared by the family, including Istrian cheese with truffles, sausages with truffles, truffle patte, honey with truffles, and olive oil with truffles. After tasting, enjoy a truffle hunt in the woods where black truffles are grown and harvested. All the truffles are actually hidden. However, their strong smell and of course trained dogs recognize them very well. After your experience explore the medieval town of Motovun. Enjoy a walk of the beautiful town and some free time for exploring before continuing your trip back to Rovinj.

Rovinj – Parenzana Bike Trail: The Parenzana biking trail got its name from the famous railroad that connected Istria with the heartland of Austria-Hungary, i.e. Poreč in Croatia with Trieste in Italy. The railroad brought great prosperity to the local inhabitants, which is why it’s mentioned with respect and nostalgia in stories even today. Parenzana’s route passes through the tame landscape of Istria which conceals a huge natural wealth. It is precisely through this famous railroad that many nature lovers have gotten to know the uniqueness and beauty of Istria, Croatia. The diversity of plants and wildlife in the lush forests take you back to another time, and passages cut into massive rocks and deep chasms remind you of nature’s magnificence, and leave no one with a sense of indifference. Because of the extraordinary significance of this landmark, the Parenzana bike trail was created, and is also known today as the Trail of Health and Friendship because it connects three countries - Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
