Day 1: Alta, Norway

Arrive in the Norwegian city of Alta, located 380 km north of the Arctic Circle. Check-in at a centrally located hotel, close to famous sights like the Northern Light Cathedral.

Day 2: Alta | Embark

Individually explore Alta. In the afternoon, board the M/S Stockholm and meet up with your guides to begin your expedition cruise.

Day 3-6: Expedition

  • Ship
  • 4 Breakfasts, 4 Lunches, 4 Dinners
You are now on an expedition cruise, and the itinerary for the following days is flexible due to weather and wildlife. You'll be traveling in late October and November, just before the polar darkness settles over Alta, and there are still some hours of daylight. Even when the sun is below the horizon, you can enjoy enchanting dusks and dawns. For those interested in photography, the light at this time of year is captivating. In clear weather, you have good chances to see the spectacular Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) dance in the sky. Alta is known to be one of the best destinations to visit if you dream of watching this fascinating phenomenon.

Since 2010, huge herring shoals have overwintered Northern Norway's fjords, attracting many orcas and humpbacks. As with wild animals, it is hard to predict if and where they will return, but with some luck, you will experience unforgettable encounters with these incredible mammals. The area is also a popular haunt for white-tailed eagles. You may see them soaring above you with their impressive wingspans.

During your trip, you hope to be fortunate to see both the Northern Lights and whales. When the opportunity arises, you head out on exciting Zodiac cruises and refreshing hikes to explore the dramatic landscapes. Oksfjorden, StjernOya, and Loppa are examples of places you hope to explore. Perhaps the first snow has fallen and settled over the high mountain peaks, offering marvelous scenery with the small, picturesque houses and the beautiful fjords.

On board, you listen to inspiring lectures, enjoy delicious meals, and keep a lookout for wildlife and Northern Lights out on deck. Those interested in fishing will have opportunities to try luck from the ship.

Day 7: Alta

  • 1 Breakfast
You disembark from our ship in the morning and begin your journey home.

Please note: The exact route will depend on weather and possible wildlife encounters. The Captain and the Expedition Leader will do everything to maximize your experience. Please remember that flexibility is the key to a successful expedition!
