Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Join an optional city highlights tour to discover Kristiansand, visiting the most important sites in and around the city. First stop at the largest open-air museum in Norway, Vest Agder Cultural Heritage Museum, with its 30 re-erected houses. Next start a guided walk of the city, visiting Posebyen, the historical region, and the cathedral Kristiansand Domkirke. Walk through the fruit and vegetable market Torvet and continue down the shopping street Markens until arriving by the seaside and the Christiansholm Fortress. Enter for a look at the canons and enjoy the spectacular view over the marina and the ocean. Stop at the local fish market and the new concert house Kilden before returning to your ship.
A second option is to start a tour in the city center, enjoying the typical architecture, the charming wooden houses, small‑boat harbor, and Christiansholm fortress. Stop at the Vest-Agder County Museum and then visit Søgne Old Church. The interior of this church is richly adorned with renaissance decorations from the 17th century as well as baroque paintings from the 18th century. Return to Kristiansand via the coastal road, passing idyllic summer‑houses.
From the pier in Stavanger, choose between three optional excursions. The first is a walking tour to Old Stavanger, an area of the town consisting of well-preserved wooden houses surrounded by tiny, colorful gardens dating back to the 18th and 19th century. The houses were mostly built for seafaring people, craftsmen and trading people. This particular area is today considered to be unique and the city's most important rehabilitation project. Visit the old Canning Museum, which recaptures the industry that was perhaps even more important to the town in former days than the oil industry is today. Then, a short walk takes you to the market square at the head of the harbor bay. Just behind stands the cathedral, the best preserved of Norway’s medieval churches, built around 1125 by Bishop Reinald of Winchester. Carry on through the adjacent pedestrian street with many tempting shops and a bustling life. At the far end, reach the Valberg tower, built in 1850-53 and used as a fire watchtower. Your tour ends back at the pier.
A second option is to explore an Iron Age farm. Drive past rich agricultural countryside before arriving at Ullandhaug with its reconstructed farmhouses from the Iron Age and an introduction into life during that time. In one of the low houses with a turf roof, learn more about the living conditions around the year 500 A.D. After your visit, drive toward a viewpoint nearby at Ullandhaug Hill and enjoy a magnificent view over Hafrsfjord, where the Viking‑king Harald Haarfagre (the Fair-haired) in 872 defeated the last of the regional princes and founded the Kingdom of Norway by uniting the 29 small kingdoms under one crown. Enjoy a photo stop at the Sword in Rock with its three Viking swords more than 9 meters high. You may stroll through Old Stavanger and its charming wooden houses on your own at the end of the tour.
You may also opt to visit Utstein Monastery on Mosteroy Island, accessible via an underground tunnel which is almost 3 miles long. From the 13th century onwards, Augustine‑Monks lived here in the peaceful countryside. The reformation in 1537 put an end to monastery life and the King's vassals took over the property. After a guided visit of the monastery, enjoy a short music recital in the chapel and experience the peace of the surroundings.
At your morning stop in Hellesylt, join an all-day excursion to Geiranger that brings you through this region's many historic and natural wonders. Travel by coach to Hornindalsvatnet, one of the deepest lakes in Europe at 1695 ft/ 514m deep. Continue to the River Stryn, an excellent spot for salmon fishing, and along the shores of Lake Stryn. After lunch head to Mount Dalsnibba, climbing up through a beautiful landscape of mountains, waterfalls, and lakes that follow one after the other before arriving at Lake Djupvaten. Your route continues on up Mount Dalsnibba to a height of 4930ft/ 1,495m from where you will have an exceptional view.
Alternatively, you may cruise with the ship to Geiranger, and choose to join one of two optional half-day excursions: head to Mount Dalsnibba by coach, or join professional guides on a 2-hour kayak tour of the fjords. Glide along the steep mountain walls and see thundering waterfalls such as the "Seven Sisters" and the "Bridal Veil".
Keep your camera close at hand as you sail amongst the majestic Norwegian fjords. Choose between two optional half-day excursions, the first to Giske and Goody Islands. The famous Gange - Rolv, or Rollo, was from Giske. This great warrior conquered Normandie in 911 and became the ancestor of William the Conqueror, sire to the English Royal Family. The old marble church in Giske was built in the Norman style and is a typical product of the architecture prior to 1200. Continue to Godoy Island and Alnes Village, a typical fishing village with a well-preserved lighthouse.
The second excursion, of Aalesund's surroundings and its open air museum, starts along the Borgundfjord, through the modern suburbs to the old trading center of Borgund. Visit Borgund Church (St. Peter's Church), the Sunnmøre Open-Air Museum consisting of various types of farmhouses, boathouses, and old boats that have been moved to this site from all over the region, and Mount Aksla with its views over the town.
An optional 1.5-hour kayaking excursion is offered from the Flam pier. Paddle between the rugged mountains on the smooth Aurlandsfjord, a branch off of the main Sognefjorden, Norway's longest fjord and a part of the World Heritage Area surrounding Nærøyfjord (UNESCO's World Heritage). Breathe in the fresh air and drink the pure water straight from one of many waterfalls and rivers flowing into the fjord. Alternatively, you may join a full day train ride on the Flåm Railway to Vik, which winds down the steep and narrow Flåm Valley. Along the way enjoy countless viewpoints, gushing rivers and waterfalls, agricultural areas and charming villages, and the Hopperstad Stave Church built in the 12th century with dragon head ornamentation.
In Vik, join a tour to the Hopperstad Stave Church and to the old Hove stone church. After your visit, climb to Vossesvingen Viewpoint for an overview of Vik and its surroundings. Drive along the fjord to Vangsnes, an important ferry junction, to admire the giant statue of the Viking Chieftain Fridtjof, a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II.

Adventure Life is definitely a first-class safari tour company, and our representative was Franny Friesz. First of all, she responded immediately after we contacted Adventure Life. We told Franny that we had never been on a safari, and she was more than eager to offer a mountain of information about the trip. She informed us fully about all the ups, downs, and all arounds! She even prepared a number of packages for us to review -- even after we made changes to the areas we wanted to explore. Friendly, helpful, professional, and extremely knowledgeable -- these words describe Franny, and what a wonderful trip she prepared! We couldn't have asked for better service than Franny of Adventure Life. We HIGHLY recommend her and her outstanding company! Bon Voyage!

The staff at Adventure Life made planning my family's trip to the Galapagos Islands as easy as possible. They listened to what we were hoping to experience and made thoughtful suggestions about how to accomplish our vacation goals while meeting the needs of travelers ages 17-76! They patiently answered questions and follow up questions in the months leading up to the trip. They helped us trouble shoot and customize the trip in every way possible. The logistics involved in traveling from Boston to the Galapagos are innumerable. The Adventure Life staff helped us arrange every detail and the team they assembled in the Galapagos was tremendous. I have never done a trip this big before and after working with Adventure Life this time--would not hesitate one second in working with them again.
