This Girl and That Guy Escape to Peru

traveling. away they go! good bye Chicago, hello Peru!this girl catching some zzzzs in an airportthis girl and that guy reading on the flight to cusco.the first cervezasthe first supper
My Photos : Jaclyn Sharratt
Months and months ago, a couple from Chicago decided to take a vacation. That guy wanted to take this girl on a special, unforgettable trip to celebrate a landmark occasion: her 30th birthday. Seeing this girl was never one to make a fuss over the day of her birth, it was quite a surprise when she agreed. With very little muss and fuss, the city dwellers pinpointed Peru as their destination of choice. After months of planning with travel guru Sullivan of Adventure Life, the two packed their bags and headed to South America for an experience they would never forget...

Our idea for this trip started with seeing Machu Picchu, but soon, trekking the Inca Trail became integrally important to the purpose of the trip. Dave & I are in our late 50’s. We hike, but we're not athletes. Once we decided on the trek itinerary, “while we’re there, what else can we see ?’, added Manu & Lake Titicaca, and they were great, too. The entire trip was a fabulous experience, and we were very pleased with everything Adventure Life provided.

As an adventuresome couple Peru proved to be the perfect home away from home to celebrate our new life together. Living in Colorado drew us to the magnificent Andes and it proved to be a perfect fit for our love of the outdoors. We spent almost every moment of our visit enjoying the mountains in a variety of ways. Traveling came by way of plane, train, and automobile plus hiking, biking, and rafting. It's no wonder so many people have found this extraordinary journey on their bucket list.

This journal is co-created by Nate and Michele. We planned our trip to Peru over Thanksgiving 2011 to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary and it was truly magical. We share a passion for travel and seek destinations that are both off the beaten path and which offer a winning combination of great food, beautiful scenery, adventure and amazing people. Peru did not disappoint.

What a breathtakingly beautiful area Patagonia is! It is a land of contrasts: with flat arid plains around Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdez and its penguin colonies and Estancias, to the awesome glaciers and otherworldly rock formations of El Calafate near the central western border of Argentina. At its southernmost tip are the enormous craggy mountain ranges and tranquil shores, and wooded islands found along the Beagle Channel. Amazing vistas met us at every turn on our trek through this never-to-be-forgotten region of God's world!

Bogota is a high altitude city with a 500+ year history involving Spain and Europe. Of interest is the fact that the Colombian government is the most friendly to the USA of all South American countries. We saw evidence of progress in many facets of the country. The flag represent their history and culture: yellow for the gold mined, blue for the two oceans (Pacific and Atlantic) that flank the country, and red, for the blood of the Martyrs fighting for Independence. We were so blessed to be a part of the Dubberly's life and church while in Bogota. May God continue to bless their ministry as they serve Him!

We would highly recommend anyone to take a trip with Adventure Life, as we have been looking into a few other trips with them as well. No other travel company comes close to the private, tailored trip like we had. They even made it possible for us to travel by creating a trip based on our travel dates.
