Our Adventures in Peru - 2012

I went to : Peru, Cusco, Lima, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu Ruins, Puno, Nazca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Amantani Island, Paracas, El MaPi Inn, San Agustin Exclusive, La Hacienda Bahia Paracas, Hotel Majoro, Casa Andina Classic, Colca Canyon Homestay, Q'Elqatani, Lake Titicaca, Amantani Homestay, Casa Andina Cusco, El Sauce
During the summer of 2011, we began planning for our trip to Peru. The Adventure Life travel agency of Missoula, Montana, specializing in Central and South American travels, was selected as we endorsed their philosophy of utilizing local lodging, transportation and guides, maintaining small groups, and being ecologically responsible. Our tour guide for the first 10 days from Lima to Puno was Carlos Lazo, while our guide for the last 5 days in the Cusco region was Teddy Romero. A mother and her 17-year-old son (Sarah and Christopher) were the 2 other members of our group. Peru is in the Eastern Time Zone but does not observe daylight saving time. Sunrise occurred at approximately 6:20 am and sunset near 5:50 pm. Peru is located in a temperate zone and has two climates ? wet (Dec ? Mar) and dry. Days were sunny with temperatures between 60-70 degrees. Nights at higher elevations dropped between 30 and 40 degrees.

Our Trip to Peru & Mantay Shelter

I went to : Peru, Lima, Costa del Sol, Puno, Q'Elqatani, Lake Titicaca, Amantani Island, Cusco, Casa Andina Cusco, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu Ruins, Puerto Maldonado, Sandoval Lake Lodge, San Agustin Exclusive, Uros Islands, El MaPi Inn, Amazon, Heath River Wildlife Center
Every segment of our trip was top-notch. The weather was great, along with the food, the tours, the lodging, the transportation and the people. We made a stop at Mantay in Cusco to deliver peace pals and medical supplies. We were very impressed to learn that Adventure Life has a relationship with the shelter. Thanks to Milagros in Lima, we learned about the Mantay Shelter in Cusco. My friends and I knitted 26 peace pals to distribute to the mama and baby residents there. Mantay Shelter provides safety and education for abused teenage mothers and their children. After a break in and robbery of the computers and televisions, Adventure Life helped to heighten the brick wall and install electric protection around the shelter. It also helped to solve several plumbing problems in the bathroom. We all greatly appreciated having our own ''private'' tours. With just 4 of us, we could all fit into a van and could interact better with our guides. This kind of intimacy is not possible with a large group on a bus. We were able to stop for pictures and ask questions whenever we wanted to. Also we were able to drive to locations that a big tour bus could not reach, for instance the salt mines. Thanks to Adventure Life for giving us the opportunity to share with people in Peru.
