Day 1

Santiago, Chile

Arrive in Santiago, Chile and check in to the centrally located Ritz Carlton Hotel. Have the morning to relax. Santiago is nearly surrounded by the Andes, which form an inspiring backdrop to an afternoon guided overview of this vibrant city. Explore the Plaza de Armas, the main square, and nearby Presidential Palace, enjoying wonderful views from the many hills that dot the city.

Santiago / Ushuaia

In the morning, take a charter flight to Ushuaia. Take a catamaran cruise through Patagonia’s scenic Beagle Channel before embarking on the National Geographic Orion. Depart port.

Day 3

At Sea

In the morning, wake to views of the Drake Passage. Attend lectures and explore the ship. As you sail, hope to see whales as they swim with the ship.

Falkland Islands

Arrive at the Falklands Islands, home to the largest albatross colony in the world, irresistible Magellanic penguins, and herds of enormous elephant seals. Stroll through the charming Victorian-style houses of Port Stanley and visit the Anglican Cathedral and the Falkland Islands Museum. The cathedral features a large archway made entirely of whale bones.

At Sea

Set sail for South Georgia Island and view whales and seabirds from the decks of the ship. Join naturalists on board for presentations about the wildlife of South Georgia and the inspiring story of Ernest Shackleton and his ship, the Endurance.

South Georgia Island

Arrive on South Georgia Island, the final resting place for explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Toast to this famous explorer at his gravesite before heading off to explore the breathtaking scenery and view abundant wildlife. Take a zodiac to see a fur seal colony and vast amounts of penguins.

At Sea

Continue to voyage south on your way to Antarctica! As you sail, take the chance to head up to the Bridge to watch for icebergs and observe expert navigation at work as our skilled Captain and officers sail these historic waters. Enjoy a massage in the wellness center, workout in the gym, and browse the library's collection of books. Attend lectures and briefings as you sail each day.

Days 15-19

Explore the Antarctica Peninsula. The long hours of daylight allow you to make the most of your days. The schedule for these days is flexible, allowing you to take advantage of the unexpected opportunities. Sail through the incomparable Lemaire Channel and land on the 'White Continent.' Explore the area via Zodiac, kayak, and on foot.

At Sea

Begin the journey back to Ushuaia. As you sail, hope to glimpse an albatross or two as they escort the ship back to shore. Share your wealth of photographs with the onboard National Geographic photographer and take in the final days of your Antarctic exploration.

In the morning, disembark in Ushuaia and take the time to explore this city at the 'end of the world.' Board the charter flight back to Santiago and connect with your flights home.
