We ate in some wonderful places; Le Bergerac (one of our favorites), Morphos (great for lunch), Johhny's Pizza (excellent Italian food and pizza), Marlin (great seafood), Dos Cocos across from Marlin which was our favorite or second favorite place to eat. The meals at the Arneal Loddge were also very good. The first night in San Jose we ate in a small local tapas restaurant (also served full entrees) called the Olio Restaurant and Pub just a short walk away (great Tapas and a fine way to begin our adventure).
Mario Morazan was the perfect choice for us. He was very enthusiastic about his country, extremely knowledgeable of the flora and fuana (especially the birds), was a wonderful guide, was fun to be with and have dinner with, and was personable and friendly. His enthusiam is adictive!. All of the other guides we encountered (raft tour, canopy tour, white water rafting, rainforest tour, and the drivers were all very nice and friendly and seemed happy to have us visiting their wonderful country!
When we began looking for a place to vist this year we decided not go to Europe due to the poor exchange rate. We considered the Ammazon, Machu Picu, Galapagos, and then came upon Costa Rica. After doing a quick internet search for Costa Rica travel we came upon the Adventure Life web site. We evaluated the trips to Costa Rica and agreed that the one we picked was not only going to be an adventure but one that we felt were we physically capable of not only executing but having fun at the same time. My wife was very leery about the Canopy Tour and the White Water rafting and really only went along becuase I kind of talked her into it. I actually thought that she would back out of zipping amongst the tree tops and some hiking and other activities but as it turned out she accomplished each and every one and had the time of her life. In fact she was proud of her accomplishements and more than once told me that she was glad that I found the trip and "kind of" talked her into it. We also had many opportunities to rediscover ourseleves as we got to spend much time together relying upon each other as in the white water, and the very nice slower river raft trip we took with Mario our guide. Since there were only two of us on the tour we had Mario to ourseleves for five days! What a great guy full of zest for life (Pura Vida!!!!!) and a great love for his country. By the end of the five days we each knew just about everything about each others lives as well as having the time of our lives exploring the various forests and watching Mario constantly on the lookout for interesintg plants, trees, animlas, and of course the beautiful birds. When we saw a Quetzal in the Monteverde Cloud Forest he said to us, "Well, my job is done as there is nothing that I can show you today that will top this. You are very fortunate to have been able to see the most beautiful bird in our country". Shortly after that we got to see a second Quetzal and I thought Mario was going to have a heart attack! He ran around telling everyone nearby to come and take a look. How can you beat that kind of enthusiasm! Thank you Adventure Life for doing such a great job. It is clear to us that your main focus is on the service you provide to your clients. We appreciate it!
The hotels were wonderful. The Le Bergerac was beautiful with very nice gardens and nice rooms. The restaurant was fantastic. The Arneal Observatory Lodge may be the most beautiful setting we have ever been in. Magnificnet view from our room and the grounds are beautiful. The Hotel Montana in Monteverde was also very nice. At Manuel Antonio we had to stay at the Cabanas Playa Espedilla which were also very nice and extremely close to the beach.
