Edwin, Hedy, Molly, & Rosalie Campbell
(Galapagos Category 3 Cruise - Coral II, Aug 2006)A couple of years ago, Rosalie, our youngest, invented a holiday: National Hedgehog Day. It falls on August 24. We always do something to commemorate it. This year it fell while we were in the Galapagos. I remembered sort of all of a sudden while walking around on one of the islands, and mentioned it to someone else in our group. As soon as we got back on the boat, she went to see the cook, and asked if he could somehow make a hedgehog (porcuspino in Spanish). He made a beautiful creation out of a melon, a box of toothpicks, and a couple of raisins and presented it to Rosalie during dinner. She smiled and laughed like it was Christmas morning. The next day it was the centerpiece on the buffet, extending the celebration another day. I was much impressed with the cook's willingness and creativity on short notice. It was a really memorable moment for all of us.
