Ruckomechi Camp is situated along the western edge of Mana Pools National Park on private concession. The scenery here is breathtaking and secluded, and the spot offers great dry season wildlife concentrations, being set near the shores of the Zambezi River and amongst the ana trees, a favorite treat for elephant herds. The ten spacious platform tented accommodations offer a comfortable arrangement with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor shower, and a 'bath with a view'. All of the tents overlook the scenic and peaceful Zambezi River.

The main lodge has a central dining room, bar, lounge, and library and overlooks the Zambezi River. The entire camp is connected by low-level wooden walkways and a separate deck offers a pool and the opportunity for sunbathing and star gazing.

Activities at Ruckomechi

Game Drives - Set out in open Land Rovers to spot wildlife. Seven seats in each vehicle allow everyone a window seat. Make your way through the private concession and through diverse habitat which allows for maximum game-viewing.

River Cruises - Cruise down the stretch of the Zambezi River in nine-seater pontoons or a six-seater speed boat. For a more adventurous option, try paddling a canoe on your own. Spot large numbers of birds and other wildlife that are attracted to the water's edge.

Nature Walks - Experience the wilds of Mana Pools by foot with an experienced guide.

Catch and Release Fishing - Spend some time on the boats fishing for breem (tilapia), barbel (catfish), and tigerfish. Keen fishermen are encouraged to bring their own tackle and gear, as only basic gear is offered at the lodge. This activity is also subject to availability of the boats and has an additional charge.

Star Bed - Fall asleep to the sounds of nature as you look up under the starry sky in a romantic 'star bed' situated near a waterhole.

Fantastic Birding - Spot a diversity of birdlife in the area. Species include: three-banded courser, western banded snake-eagle, Arnot's chat, green-capped eremomela, African golden oriole, Lilian's lovebird, Bohm's spinetail and Meve's starling.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).
