Thank you for this absolutely wonderful experience. Our Belmond river cruise ship and the entire staff were stellar. Our time with them included many special conversations with staff, interesting and informative talks by staff members, a beautiful evening surprise of floating lanterns (1800 of them!) coming down the river and then surrounding our ship--accompanied by just the right music chosen by the staff member in charge, and opportunities to learn from Celine, the hotel manager, about her mentoring/training of waitstaff and housekeeping staff members from the local rural area and learning from the physician on board about his clinic in Bagan (which we were able to visit) and about the numerous other clinics and schools he has been key in developing in Myanmar. Our daily guide, Oo Oo provided us with a wealth of information and experiences allowing us to learn a tremendous amount about the country, its people's wishes, the history, the cultural values, the cultural and Buddhist practices -- and much, much more -- all with warmth, thoughtfulness, and relatedness. We truly enjoyed our time with him! Our chef from Thailand prepared delicious Asian and Western food for every meal -- she graciously provided a demonstration of two recipes and offered a tour of the kitchen. We met many local rural people each day during our excursions with Oo Oo. They were all so friendly -- and yes, they absolutely returned every smile we gave! We saw a few particular individuals on several different days and were able to talk with them more about their lives. This was a profound week for us -- countless heartfelt moments, much emotion, and a huge increase in our awareness and understanding. I am sure I am leaving out lots of other details that were so important to us. After the river cruise, our two days in Yangon were also full of excellent experiences planned by our very engaged guide -- again, there was much emotion in learning more of Myanmar's history. I was thrilled to visit the exceptional Shwedagon Pagoda before and during sunset. Our guide also added two other places of importance onto our itinerary for us to visit with him. The transfer arrangements were all efficient and straightforward. We did not need to feel stressed about any of the arrangements. The Loft Hotel and adjacent restaurant were very comfortable -- and all of the staff members were particularly gracious and helpful.
