Forbes just came out with a list of "10 Endangered Places to See Now" that includes some of Adventure Life travelers' most sought-after regions: the Amazon rainforest, Galapagos Islands, and U.S.-Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert -- the largest in North America. It is not surprise to see these regions make an endangered places list. In the Amazon, deforestation is a constant treat to both the flora and fauna, as well as the indigenous communities that call the Amazon home. The Galapagos faces problems with population growth, invasive species and unregulated tourism. And the Chihuahuan Desert is threatened by population grown, agriculture, poor water management and invasive species. The remaining list of threatened locations includes the Dead Sea, Everglades National Park, Glacier National Park, Great Barrier Reef, Swiss Alps, Tibet and Venice.
We hope travelers will experience an Amazon Adventure, a Galapagos trip or a Mexico tour -- not to simply make a tick off a bucket-list. But to connect with these places and return home with a new energy and desire to protect this places -- and use their first-hand knowledge to educate others of why these destinations are so delicate and valuable. In other words, to travel well.
