Explore Svalbard, Bjørnøya, North Cape, and Tromsø, and scan for polar bears under the midnight sun on a voyage that follows the path of the very first explorer journeys, dating back to 1896. Cross the Arctic Ocean and set course for Norway's mainland. About 3,000 polar bears live on the Svalbard archipelago, probably the largest concentration on Earth! Observe these magnificent marine mammals from the ship as they make their way through the terrain resting on drift ice or swimming in the sea.
Highlights
Enjoy spectacular wildlife encounters
Admire the globe sculpture on the North Cape
Explore the famous Monaco Glacier and its stunning nature
Visit Ny-Alesund, one of just four permanent settlements on Svalbard
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Tromso is the gateway to the Arctic, and this is where your expedition starts. When polar explorer Roald Amundsen recruited crew for his famous expeditions more than 100 years ago, he went to Tromso. The city is still the gateway to the Artic and a natural starting point for expeditions heading north.
Sail early in the morning toward the spectacular North Cape cliffs. At Hornvika, drop off hikers before continuing to Skarsvog, a small village along the northern coast of the island of Mageroya. Join an optional excursion to the North Cape and see what its like to stand at the end of the Earth.
Cross the Arctic Ocean and set course for Norway's mainland, arrive at Bjornoya, the southernmost island in the Svalbard archipelago. This isolated outpost hosts one of the largest concentration of seabirds in the Northern Hemisphere. If conditions allow, land on Bjornoya.
Sailing north, focus on the ice edge and attempt to enter fjords where landlocked ice is expected. About 3,000 polar bears live on the Svalbard archipelago, probably the largest concentration on Earth. Observe these magnificent marine mammals from the ship as they make their way through the terrain resting on drift ice or swimming in the sea. See the Monaco Glacier, and there may be an opportunity to try glacier traversing. Exceptional experiences await you on the ice, as 60% of Svalbard is covered by glaciers.
Sailing into the Kongsfjord, encounter the town of Ny-Alesund, one of just four permanent settlements on Svalbard. Ny-Alesund was the starting point for many North Pole expeditions and today, many countries run national research stations here.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.

Adventure Life has been an extraordinary travel resource for us over the years and today was no exception. Our River Cruise booking was handled by Jess (who has been our personal trip planner for several years) the same day as our inquiry. Suggestions were given for cabin choice and pre-trip options (that were not shown on the cruise line's website) like airport transfers and prepaid gratuities. Trip insurance recommendations followed and we were assigned a travel co-ordinator till the end of the tour. All we have to do is show up! Great service from friendly folks.

Our travel was flawless! The rider pickup (airport, hotel, ship) was seamless. Jane's recommendation for Emerald Cruise Sakara was everything I wanted but the experience was soooo much more. Adventure Life took care of each and every detail and this was the easiest of all my travels.
